transmission stuck?

I was driving down the road yesterday in my 95 w/KA w/130K miles. I upshifted 2-3 fine, then 3-4 fine, but when after i pushed the clutch in and took it out of fourth, it would not go into fifth. then it wouldn't go back into 4th. and not it will not go into any gear. the shifter just sits in neutral and i can't move it.

any suggestions?

does it grind when you try to shift when car is on? if it does then its prolly the slave cylinder, either that or it can be the master cylinder maybe. Both are very easy to change and not very expensive to buy.

Yeah, also check your fluid levels.. they would prob be low if its your slave cylinder. Try pumping your clutch a couple of times as a temporary solution.

If you can put it into gear while the engine is off, you need to replace your clutch.

I can't put it into gear, or get it close infact. The shifter is solidly jammed in place in neutral with no give in any direction. I checked the fluid level and it looked ok, and there were no other visible cues.

MIght sound silly, but have you popped your shift boot off yet to make sure there is nothing stuck in the linkage? I had an old VW Golf that did the same thing, and it ended up being a matchbox car from the previous owners kids that wedged itself in the linkage. I don't know how I never heard it rattling around in there, but I didn't.

Ahh yes, my apologies. I shall hang my head in shame and stand in the corner now.

Crawl underneath your car & check your shift fork. It's the part that connects to your slave cylinder and the pilot/throwout bearing....sorry don't remember exactly which one. IF YOU CAN, try to push the rubber boot that covers the shift fork out of the way & look into the transmission bell housing. You might be able to see where the shift fork has cracked. If it's not the fork, then it might be the little round shift ball that the fork sits on. Only way you are going to know for sure is to drop the tranny bellhousing & take a look.
Anyhow, hope this helps...
Good luck!!
