Helmets

Do you know where to get helmets for a decent price and would you recommend any?

Got any recommendations for Auto-X and maybe some track events? By 2005, Snell 2000 Helmets will be required. I would like something not too expensive, confortable and compliant to the Snell 2000 standard.

I really don't know anything about helmets!

Thanks a lot!

Dag, I'm surprised noone has said Ebay. Geez, I usually see snell's going for about $40-$60. I'm probably going to be buying one here shortly.

Well if it's brand new I don't see a problem with it's reliability.

I picked up a Bieffe Predator at Summit Racing this past summer. Nice helmet for the money. They offer prepainted replicas which are pretty cool for the money.

There's a bunch at a $50 starting price, but with no bids yet and 9 days left on the auction. Nothing in a new, SA2000 rated helmet is actually SELLING for less than $200 or so.

Not to mention, who knows how many times this "New, In Box" helmet has been dropped on the showroom floor. It's a toss-up on ebay, and for something as important as a helmet, I'd recommend doing it right the first time as you may not get a second chance!

Not that you have to go spend $300 on a Simpson (what I did, due to time constraints), but it's a good idea to go try it on. Who'd have known I actually fit nicely in a JR size helmet when I thought I'd fit (judging by measurements) in a helmet 3 sizes bigger than a JR? Fitment and comfort is important when you'll be spending 30 hot, sweaty minutes at a time (or more!) in it while driving at 10/10ths and you still can't shake the civic behind you.

i just bought a helmet for $80, because the bike store was going out of business. It was originally a $150 helmet. My problem is on the sticker on the back, it only says Snell approved and DOT. It doesn't say a number or anything. What's up with that?

look inside under the cloth liner, on the expanded foam lining. you will find a sticker that says M95 or M(whatever year rating it has).
