There is absolutely no way I'd spend 40 grand on a fucking Mustang under any circumstance other than an immediate flip. Not even if it made 2000 horses. If I spent that kind of money on a car, it would be a more tasteful one, and most likely one that has stopped depreciating.

You can't really compare the weights of a 140hp(if you are lucky) 240 and 435hp mustang. I mean if you are talking about a power bump on the 240 cool but remember the 20 years the 240 has on the mustang do it no favors suspension wise. Sure the 240 has a lot of aftermarket, but so does the mustang.

I mean I feel like a die hard 240 fan (even though I haven't owned one in 5 years) but I can admit how much better modern cars are. I mean fuck my huge ass 7 passenger Pathfinder probably runs as fast of a quarter mile. Weight isn't the only factor in whether a car is a good performer or not. The GTR made that pretty clear.

And this is a HUGE development. Nissan may take a controlling stake in Mitsubishi. This means nothing at the moment but it's interesting.

I love my 240s, neither run, and I now own the nut job that is a Fiesta ST because well, I got over my hatred of OBDII and found a car that is still simple enough I can wrench on myself. Modern cars may be pigs but they are also not a mid 90s pig. My car weighs in at about what a base model 92 hatch comes in at, but its also a shit load smaller, and has about 60 more crank hp, though I am sure a S13 with the same HP would not be able to hang with my car without a LOT of suspension work.

Wow. Makes the Hellcat and the GT350R pretty pointless. Very cool.

I'm not enough of an audiophile to place that much focus on the sound of the exhaust note. But the GT350's aero package on that cheap beast would be killer.

Meh, GT350(R) is all about track performance and handling. Hellcat should have just been called Fatcat. It has a curb weight of 4,500lb Add driver, fuel and take it to a scale and I bet it's pushing 5k. |

Isn't that a good thing?
And good God didn't know the Hellcat weighed that much, although it's not surprising. 700hp probably doesn't even feel like 700hp in that car.

Sounds a big deal in owning a performance car. I hate the SR and its bawwwwwwwwwww bawwwwwwwww Coyote really is aggravating. The only exhaust that sounds halfway like a V8 is the Basani Mid-Muffler system. Many sound like busted ass Hondas with header leaks. I'm also cranky about the modern PD blowers. Gone are the days of the Eaton M112 and Kenne Bell 2.2 screams. The newer systems improved efficiency, reduced RPM and lowered the whine to the point at low boost you can't even hear it over the radio or exhaut. Boooo. |

I would not say that car makes the GT350 pointless, but the HellCat on the other hand. I am sure the GT350 could run circles around a 727hp GT because it sounds like the only add on is more power, and nothing else to support that lunacy. The Coyote is pretty meh in my opinion, its sound does not really stand out, or its overall power when in GT form. As for the rumored Ecoboost 5.0, now that should be nuts if it comes into existence.

Anyone interested in a RWD 2 door 4 seater than runs for over 14 hours or 620+ miles straight on only salt water?
Came across this on FB. It's called the Quantino. ~138hp apparently. Oh look, they've got a little family... EDIT: Holy shit the red one is supposed to have the approximation of 1075hp...

Power to weight is a great indicator of acceleration characteristics but we're talking about the big picture here. Adding power to a car does not make it weigh less, it's not the same thing. I would rather have a 250hp 2500lbs car (like my 240) than a 350hp 3500lbs car (like my Z28 Camaro). |

Weight gains in cars have come from a lot of places, almost none being because people wanted it (most people have no fucking clue how much a car weighs). Cars have become laden with technology and safety tech and design elements aimed at safer cars. It's about 50% consumer demand (for tech and safety) and 50% government regulations. In the early 2000's pedestrian crash safety standards were put I place by the government which required the front of cars to be higher. This is why car belt lines and trunks got to be so damn tall. Cars got taller. Everything grew in size in the 2000's. Look at the height of a 2000 Civic's headlights and then look at a 2016's. It's just is what it is. Luckily for us almost all the manufacturers are trying their best (some soon better than others) to reduce weight (but don't be fooled, it's not for driving performance it's for fuel economy to meet CAFE regulations). With all that said, it's still ridiculous to compare even a car from 2000 to today.

I never thought that at this time I'd be saying "can't wait to see the new mustang/focus/camaro!" instead of "can't wait for the new silvia/240!" Man times have changed haha.
