Yep, unfortunately I am dictated by my means. The shop I work for wont pay for a second regulator setup so I am stuck doing this. I have purged before but I had to run the 75/25 out of the MIG bottle to purge, it actually does pretty well. The color turns to like a golden haze on the inside. I usually only purge for anything pre-turbo, IE Subaru up pipes, manifold repair, ect.

+1 on the auto fab crap
most people in the industry cap out at making under $20/hr
at least around this part of the country

Magnaflow cats have a 3in ID and so do my flanges
Had to stick the end in a bead roller with 2 flat dies to turn it down for a slip fit

an old jig I had laying around

look no black nasty, TheBlackNasty hahah

no purge just a slip fit and heat control

Picked one of these up today

I made a bumper for a friend this weekend also threw some support tubes in the rear subframe of the 240.

the rear subframe on the 240.

Here is my cage I just constructed over the past 2 months. I really do not know how to count the points, but I guess it is a multi point. Hand made, not based on any modified kits etc.

DOM 1.75" tubing. MIG/TIG welded.

Hey are 1/8 plate are sufficient enough for floor plates? Remember I have a bolt on cage.

Bolt in cages are not safe.

In a weld in cage 1/8" is fine if you have sufficient coverage.

1/4" for land speed cars.

Removable aluminum crash bar.

Rear fuel cell, battery tray, jack point, strut tower brace, subframe connection.

I welded the plates on the car and then bolted the cage to the car with an additional 1/8 plate in the bottom

blu808, always sick work. love it when people are smart enough to make a bash bar/core support removeable...alot easier if you need to replace it or need to pull an engine out.

hahaha i see a little burn through! lol jk looks nice man, for no purge, i bet you if you use a litte more more rod and space the beads more (both to cool the weld more) you wont see aannyy at all! So you say in the auto fab industry the cap is low like that?? i guess the only way to get in the money there is to start my own r&d shop then

the field i am in some guys can get up to 40 50 and hour here in the bay area, after like 15 years or so.

The bend is to follow the shape of the roof like it suggests in the NASA rule book. It also gives you much more visibility and in a roll over it will keep the cage from crushing in on you.

that was based on my buddy who built cages for someone...he had like 10 years exp...he works for the Sheriff now hahah

the guy I replaced started his own business
shit I'll give him a plug Mo-Fab
pretty sure he capped out about that...he had been working for that business for 7 years, and been fabbing for longer than that

that is probably the way I will go in a couple of years, I have only been in the biz for 2 years now

Just picked up some new welders for the shop.

Miller Dynasty 200DX Tig

and

Miller Millermatic 212 auto set.

The first time I used a 200dx was when Jonnie Fraz came down to my shop. He had just purchased it. The first weld I ever laid down with it turned out to be the best I had ever done. The arc shaping and control are superior to any machine I have used. I look forward to showing everyone what we create with these exceptional machines.

I know what you mean, Im desperate to get a few tools out in my garage and explore some ideas, im not cut out to be in law enforcement; too many illegal extra curricular activities.

I actually played around with the arc balance and wave shaping tonight. I have to say I am impressed with the cleaning ability of the machine.
