Ave mileage on 20yo car

So in the evaluation report of my car being totaled insurance took off $572 for mileage adjustment noting that ave mileage for a '95 is 137K and mine is 198K. REALLY??

hows that possible with the average motorist racking up 12,000 miles a year? both my '95s have upwards of 260k on the original clusters.

My '95 S14 cluster stopped working at around 135k miles. If that's a common issue, that might explain why the average is 137k!

I might be able to see it. The older they get, the less they get driven typically. Although my '06 has almost 120k, but I drive a lot.

guys I wasn't asking how much each of you have on your cars. I just feel like the insurance saying that 137K on a '95 is somewhat low. Most cars have more than that in 20yrs..

that is low. i get a discount on my insurance for driving 7k miles or less a year. 137k works out to 6,850 miles a year. i would think that 10-12k would be average

I have state farm and they have their yearly average at 7500 miles. If I drive between 7500 and 12,000 miles they charge more and higher than that is a lot more.

I was under the assumption that 80% of Americans drive less than 40 miles a day.
Alright, 40 miles x 5 days of working in a cubicle and staying in all weekend playing with your cats x 52 weeks of repeating that shit gives 10,400 miles a year.
A 95 Nissan (20 years ) should have 208,000 miles by that account.

Just see how much you drive a week in your schedule is consistent all year round.

During the school year I rack up a load of miles and in the summer my commute to work is a 2 mile round trip.

Op, what was the point of this thread if you didnt want to hear everyones mileage?
What the fux did you think was gonna happen?

S13's are pretty much all high now. A lot of the S14's I look at have at least 140k. I lucked out and got my 98 with 60k, and my actual Silvia (95) is at 54k.

I'm at 198k. Figures to about 10k miles per year. That average mileage quote is definitely much lower than I'd expect.

Everyone says average per year, but most cars older than 2000 probably aren't driven every single day and don't rack up miles like you would expect. Not to mention, the average is going to go off all the cars that could be sitting at 50k and that brings the average down.

I have State farm also, they totalled my 1993 sc400 in January this year at about 205xxx.

Didn't write off for my mileage and my car had only slightly less miles driven per year, compared to yours. I bought the car back from them also.

To me, it sounds like someone is trying to get over on you there, I'd try to talk to someone else and explain that 6,500-7,000 miles per year is NOT what the average commuter drives annually. It's much higher than that. Like said above, it's at least 10,000-12,000 miles per year. And since that's true, they should give you the $5xx in question

If its a total lose and they are attempting to give you the lower end of the shaft. go on auto trader and kbb.com and figure out your cars worth.
Here I did it for you
http://www.kbb.com/nissan/240sx/1995...=private-party
In good condition your car is worth between 1300-1500.
Now print this out.
Now go to auto trader look for other 240 within a 100 mile range with the same milage and year or the SAME BODY TYPE.
Print out the ADS.
Go talk to your insurance adjuster and tell them that your vehicle is worth anywhere from 1300-XXXX.
Articulate your words properly. Do not use any ghetto hood talk, that swag shit or that mad JDM tYte lingo. Go in there as a professional and state the car is well maintained and was a reliable daily driver and to replace it with a car of equal value will cost XXXX amount of dollars.

i'm pretty sure when insurance looks at your vehicle and attempts to value it, they obviously look at KBB, but then they look at similar vehicles for sale in your area.
If there were 3-5 nice lower miles s14s for sale, that doesn't make yours look so good.

their average is from a sample. ask them where they got those numbers and how many cars they used for the sample. then make them look dumb using math.

I don't think any insurance goes by KBB anymore. They go by NADA, atleast the State Farm adjuster told me I could get an idea by looking at NADA. NADA is higher than kbb. Cars that are selling are going for 2-4K over kbb. I don't know how they got their ave mileage, 137K. They did base the mkt value from 2 comparisons on the evaluation report. They took the value of those cars and added in my options then made a deduction for mileage but the mileage on those two cars were 161K and 145K where they gave a deduction for both those car from the 137K. Then based on all that they came up with a base value. Then after doing that they added in 572 for conditional adjustment where I received a 2.8 on a 1-5 scale where the ave was 2.1. So on the actual report I got 4296. My agent talked to them before I did but wasn't given the eval report which I got later and she was told my car was worth 4660. So when I talked to total loss later I was surprised when they told me it was 4296. So basically they didn't tell her the actual numbers they were going by. That number was before they added 572 (conditional adj) and 100 (aftermk adj) but subtracting 574 (mileage adj) and 500 (prior damage which wasn't on report at all). So again on the report my car came to 4296 but really the value was 3796 after prior damage adj.

Either way I questioned them on the mileage and the one I talked to in total loss fumbled her words and first said the average was 300K saying per yr it was 10-15K and I said yea the report said 137K which was only 6K or so per yr then she paused for practically 15sec then said yea the ave on your car is 137K. I'm like ok whatever. That's not right. Afterwards I emailed them pics of some stereo and upgrades I did and 3 other comparables. Which that's another thing right there. This girl said I could send in comparables in my area. i told her on the report one of the cars was in FL then she said well you can choose others outside. So after sending in the pics I get a call from someone saying they wanted receipts and they still hadn't received the comparables which he then says they need to be within a 50-100mile radius. Anyway I sent pics of the receipts and 3 comparables in. Get this I found the car in FL they used on the report which actually had a list price of 4995 from a wholesale dealer not 3995 stated on the report! So I call them Thur and she goes they messed up by sending me a check for reimbursement of the equipment from the reciepts and says those should have been put back into the evaluation report. So she ends up fixing that and says it will have to be sent off to the company for reevaluation and it will take 2-3 bus days and they have to enter them in manually bec of the age of the car. I did find out my car will retain a clean title bec mechanical damages were less than value of the car. Why didn't you tell me that to begin with? Sorry about being long winded but this whole process has been so stupid!
