I've heard that S13's handle best with square setups and s14's handle better with a stagger. What are you guy's opinions on this?

Considering they're almost identically designed suspensions, I don't think that's true.

Also, the fastest autox 240s are all square setups.

A 245 front on a S13 with oem fenders is on par for this thread... What does it matter how wide the wheel is, this thread is about pushing the limits of wide tires under these cars.

I'm not saying anything bad about anybody's setup. I can't even post my car in here. I run OEM G35 coupe wheels with 215/45 and 245/40. Nowhere close to anything max. For the wheels, sure. Definitely not for the car. I was just trying to let him know how things typically go in this thread.

Finally found the info that I was looking for. This was Ben Freed's old step on rolled and slightly pulled fenders:

19x11 +25 with a 285/35. 50mm overs, still sits in quite a bit.

My winter setup a little ago. Not the most rubber I could've fit under there, but a really nice compromise. 245s up front, 255s on the rear works really nicely on R33GTR wheels:

A lil fitment clip of my aero test fit a few months back. Specs on wheels 18x11 +0 (effective -20 w/ spacer) and 18x12 +0 (effective -10 w/ spacer) had to run spacers to clear my brakes. 285/30 front and rear. Eyeball alignment, widebody is not quite wide enough as it sits.

PHEW!!!!

I just went through all 116 pages of this thread in one run.
I noticed a few things. First thing I noticed is that we aren't getting half the tire porn we were back in the beginning of this thread. I also noticed the term stock fenders has come to actually means stock fender that have been highly modified with a roll, pull, hammering or flattening. The one thing I didn't notice was an answer to my question on tires. I still have no clue what size tire I should get for my setup. Here is some info on my setup.

Car: S14 Kouki
Wheels: Nismo LM-GT2's
Wheel Specs: Front 17x8+35 Rear 17x9+38
Suspension Info: Car is on Ohlins Struts with Eibach Sport Line Springs Drop is 1.7"F/1.4"R

I want to get the most out of my purchase so my next step is finding the perfect tires. After reading this entire thread I know the following fits under factory fenders with little if any work.

235/40/17 Front
255/40/17 Rear

My issue is that I really want to run 245/40/17 front tires but the one guy in this thread that was going to try it on a strut spring combo ended up doing it with coils instead of struts and he said he didn't think the 245/40 would fit under the spring perch on the struts. I want to keep my tires under the fender. Not looking for a flush setup.

I don't want to modify the stock fender. Another words no roll, no hammer, no pull, no flatten and I definitely would like to keep my inner fender liners.

So with all that said my question is:
Has anyone been successful with sticking 245/40/17 tires under the front of an S14 with the strut and spring setup? If so what was your suspension setup and what did you have to do to the fenders and liner to make everything clear under load.

Keep in mind my car is lower then most strut/spring cars 1.7"F/1.4"R and the rims Ill be using have a very deep back spacing.

Help my girl get some new shoes

Hey, I replied to your PM. Any reason you'd like to avoid rolling the internal fender lip? It buys you an extra 10mm of clearance, and is a totally invisible mod from the exterior (ie, providing the job is done properly, it doesn't look like you've done anything at all). As such, it's fine for even the cleanest builds.

It's when you start pulling and flaring incorrectly that you see janky arches and cracked paint. I can understand your thought process if you want to keep the bodywork 100% original, though.

Great choice on LM-GT2s btw, one of my favourite wheels.

I think that will work well. You may have to roll the rear fender though. Or just throw a tiny bit of negative camber at it.

Thanks for the reply guys. I really want an all original car. Just like it would have rolled out of Nissans Nismo division if they had used an RB25 instead of the SR20.

My plan is an all original nissan/nismo car with close to 500whp. I'm going back to an all original interior and OEM Body panels from the Silvia K's and an rb25 with a low mount hidden 500hp setup. Only give away will be the Greddy manifold and BOV valve everything else should look original. I'm even going to try to fabricate something with the factory R33 airbox.

So what im gathering from talking to you guys is it fits but it might need a slight roll on the inner lip possibly both front and rear?

If you rework the inner lip doesn't that kill your mounting spots for the inner fender liner? With my +33 offset I'm also worried about rubbing on the inside of the wheel A small spacer can be used if I need to and if its long enough for new axle studs they need to match the 12x1.25 rays lugs I already have so no arp 10x1.25 long studs for me. Id need to stay with factory thread pitch if the spacer was so big I needed longer studs.

I agree the LM-GT2's look sweet. I actualy was going to get R33 GTR wheels and during my shopping on YAJ I found these babys. I found them in color and good shape so I jumped on it. Actually still debating about selling them and going back for some R33's. But look at these babys!!!

Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

That sounds like a really cool build; I'd love to do something similar if I were to start again.

You are right, rolling the lip does compromise arch liner mounting points. I removed mine quite a while ago, so that didn't even really occur to me.

Despite this, I ran fairly wide wheels without any archwork for quite a while. I'd go ahead with your 245s, and then trial and error the fit from there. Have a few 3mm spacers on hand! There's even variation from car to car, so you can never 100% predict what will arise in each case.

Why not test fit the wheels without tyres to gauge how much internal/external clearance you have to play with?

For reference, in my signature I'm running 18x9 +16 225/40 on the front with only a lip roll. Also, I've just noticed you're looking at 40 profile rather than 45 profile. I'd propose going with the slightly meatier tyre; it'll look much more factory.

Edit:

This car is running [F] 17x8 +30 235/45, [R] 17x8 +30 245/40, and seems to have loads of arch clearance all round. Remember, the lower you go, the more horizontal fender clearance you'll have, as the wheels will naturally camber in.

What a clean car.

I cant test fit till I get my new front 5 lug hubs. The car was in a wreck and going through a rebuild. I had been collecting parts for years and this was the push that I needed to finish the build.

Anyone ever been able to get a 245mm wide tire under the stock fender with factory liner and no fender mods like rolling or pulling?

Thanks,

Which tires "square" up fairly well? I know Hankook V12s and most R compounds are square but what about some of the lower end brands like Achilles ATR Sports?

Pic for reference

Alright gents and gals. I'm new to the 240 world, totally different setups from my subaru. I need some advice for my project car. Looking for a setup for the Street/track.

1995 s14
Currently stock suspension/4 lug, buying Stance SS+ coilovers
Got some D-max front knuckles for free from a friend, dont know much about how they will change fitment. Going to 5 lug soon so I need to get some ideas for wheel sizing.

Current setup that came with the car
Front
17x9
215/45/r17
25mm spacers
Rolled/Wider fenders i think

Rear
17x11
225/45/r17
rolled fenders

Possible setup Cosmis XT-206R
18x9 33 with 245/40/18 front
18x11 8 I honestly have no effin clue what tire size fits an 11

Heres what the setup looks like on the car that came with it

Read through the thread and find some examples you like.

Those are not 17x11 rear currently. 18x11 +8 with a proper sized tire is not going to fit unless you pull the hell out of your fenders. You need a higher offset

I bought the same wheels (RPF1s 17x9.5 +18) and was thinking of running a 255/40/r17 as well but I am running a stock body. I'm not sure if a roll/pull will be enough. Do any of you guys think it will fit or should I get some fender flares/wide body/or just run a 245??

the wheels are going on an S13 hatch (Track only)

Thanks for the info and sorry if this has already been discussed

Probably won't be enough. I pulled the stock fenders as much as possible and it was still close... barely cleared, and rubbed on track. I pulled them so much that If i had the fenders off the car, I had to repull them to have the same amount of clearance again, lol. I also ran the same camber I run now, which is about -3.5 in the front.
