SR How To Delete S14 VCT?

Ok looked around and all i got was a bunch of mixed articles. I'm wanting to disable VCT on a S14 sr20det blacktop. Some say simply unplugging the solenoid will keep it from working, others state you have to change the cam gear and shaft to s13s. Does anyone have actual EXPERIENCE with deleting it?

Reason is because i don't want to experience rattle and because i simply don't want it. I know ill lose some power but thats ok. I plan to run all upgraded parts. cams, gears, valves, etc. are s13 and s14 sr20dets heads the same internal? Aside from VCT.

Once again thanks and don't post if you have not done it. Already too many different theories.

You need to install an S13 cam gear. You can disconnect the solenoid plug as well to keep the solenoid from opening.

With that said, I strongly suggest you keep it. It is not just "a little bit" of low end power, but quite a bit. Not only that, it helps partially with turbo spool.

If I were you, I'd return those cams or refrain from purchasing them. BC cams are known to have issues, specifically centerlines being way out to the point of needing cam gears to adjust or dial them in to the correct spot.

Find some Tomei, HKS, or JWT S3 cams, you'll be better off from the start. Tomei and HKS make VTC compatible cams however, HKS cams will be a bit more pricey and harder to locate.

if you get rid of the VTC I'll need your VTC gear.

but to answer your question. unplug solenoid, swap intake cam gears and goodbye VTC.

A new VTC Gear that will fix the rattle. If you are going to eliminate VTC mite as well sell the s14/s15 motor you have and make some money and use a s13 sr20 motor instead.

If you get a new VCT sprocket, wouldn't it last a long time before it rattles?
Some people never even go to that stage.

My SR has well over 50k miles (about 40 drifting event) and never went out. I am sure it's coming soon though..

I eliminated my vvt by disconnecting selenoid, using stock s13 cams and gears, and s13 ecu&maf...on 13psi it made 268rwhp on a Mustang dyno with no other mods. I didn't dyno it before but it actually felt like it had more power.

Also I'd like to add...virtually no turbo lag with the stock t28.

A new VTC cam gear will fix the rattle issue for a good period of time. Most likely, it'll outlast your setup or bottomend.

I run vtc with brian crower cam, solid lifters etc... not a single issue yet and the results are awesome.

the vtc when tuned properly let me gained something close to 80lb/ft of torque at the wheels on the spot in the powerband..

i also ran with a Noisy vtc gear for a few years with no problem

I've had a set of BC cams for about 8 years on an S13 sr20det. they do the job very well to say the least. Installed straight up, they give every indication of doing what camshaft upgrades are intended to do, that is, holding VE high and flat where it counts.

On a daily driver, I would still recommend stock springs and JWT S3 camshafts. every.single.time. set the rev limiter to 6400rpm and have fun. for years.

I've dealt with the VCT gear rattle, its annoying at first, but you eventually just tune it out. I've been running a new VCT gear for 4 years no issues yet.

There is speculation in that and I believe there was someone that tried, however I do not know the out come of this.

IMHO, if you're going to go through the trouble of "rebuilding it", which requires removing it, I'd just throw a new one in and not worry about it for 50k miles.
