How long will the KA24DE engine last,  before it breaks down?

well, you take the number of cylinders in the engine, multiply it by the bore/stroke ratio, add the displacement of the engine (in cubic centimeters, 2400 for SOHC, 2393 for DOHC), and throw it all out the window because it is impossible to predict.

Small problems happen on any complex machine. I've burned two alternators, but that's been about it for me. If you take care of your engine, don't drive it too hard, maintain it properly, you should be able to expect near 200k miles, mebbe more. A car can pretty much always be fixed. It's just a matter of spending more fixing than the car is worth.

I'm knocking on the door of 145K, 25K of that done by me, and it hasn't had any major problems...to my knowledge, no problems even during the first 120K put on by the original owner.
