Part of the problem for slow loading Tech & Classifieds areas...

Well, not sure if it's been brought up yet, but I noticed that sub forums such as Tech Talk & Classifieds load extra slow because pages links from 1-9XX are all loading (you can scroll over horizontally for a ridiculous amt).

Not sure if that was a bug or meant to be like that, but if it were capped off @ a certain page # like most sites, load times for the forums would significantly less (imho) and so would bandwidth since there isn't all that extra 1800+ "a href" tags on the top & bottom of the page..

THANKS!

It's all dependent on your local settings. I only see 7 pages of tech talk when I load it.

o, ok darn . I had just thought it would have been filtered out php server side first. Guess I'm the only one w/ this problem then.

Firefox on Linux.

Thanks for the quick response.

Ok, did further research... On Windows, Firefox & IE.

The problem seems to only exist when I'm logged in...

Not logged in: 7 pages - 72.6 KB
Logged in: 928 pages - 359 KB

* so basically, independent of OS & Browser... seems to be acct issue? or page display when a user is logged in?

Not sure if it's a big enough problem for you guys to look @, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

THANKS!
QV

Can't believe I didn't think of that. You are a genius! THANKS.

Pages load MUCH FASTER now.

Isn't it kind of server intensive to set the default @ show all threads (my selected option was "Use Forum Default")?

Oh, wow! I just cut my time load in half by changing that. Why is the default so high? Isn't that a big payload on the server?

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Yes, we can change it, but how many do?

That default must be w/ a lot of users, which I would imagine would be taking up valuable server processing time & bandwidth -> in turn, slowing down the entire site.

I would think it would be even faster for everyone, not just those that change from default -> whatever XX days, if the default wasn't "process all", as it seems to be. & should cost zilvia less in terms of bandwidth.

Is that enough incentive for administration to change the default value?

Let's say 1/3rd of the ppl left it @ default, about 10,000 ppl. and say they only visit the tech page once a day... that's an extra 2,796.875 MB each day of bandwidth wasted according to my #'s above & punching these numbers in. Of course, maybe not that many members will check that specific page each day, but should give an idea.
