Help from the pros please
i have a stock 1990 nissan 240sx 5sp 2.4l. It was passed on to me from an uncle who no longer needed it as a 5th car. Its all good and all but there are a few problems... The car shakes while im stopped at a red light, the car does not go past 5000 rpm (this one is the weirdest), and something seems to be wrong with the stand-by power (the clock and radio memory dont seem to be holding up). I do most of my repairs but im no expert... but i know there are plenty of you in this community... YOUR ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanx

shaking sounds like motor mounts to me. but thats only a guess. you haven't provided us much information to go on.
rpm cutout sounds like a bad maf but it could be other stuff as well. clock and radio memory sound like a wiring issue or maybe something as simple as a blown fuse. |

The car has 140000 miles, it almost always was driven on the highway. When i accelerate in any gear up to 5000 rpm, it stops there and does that engine rev that kinda sounds like whaaaaw whaaaw whaaaw until i shift up a gear and its all good until i get to 5000 rpm again. The car shaking only happens when im just sitting there like at a red light, I am goin to replace the plugs, wires, distributor cap n rotor, and see how that goes. If it is the engine mounts, which ones would you recommend? As for the stand by power, what fuse would i need to replace if it is the fuse? THANX again for your advice!

As far as motor mounts go, replace them with Nismo motor mounts.
They're cheap and very effective. The clock and radio memory seem to be fuse related. Check the fuses underneath the kick panel. |
