LS3 Cali smog legal
Moving to San Diego, California after being stationed in guam. Looking for a shop that is reputable with swapping LS motors into 240sx. I have a 95 and don't want it to be a trailer queen once i get there lol

I remember quickly looking into it when I LS swapped my S14 as I was still living in cali at the time. Just a quick heads up, its really not going to happen. I think there is 1 person that had it done on here (cant remember the name at this point but wrote up a complete thread on it which was extremely well done) but it is extremely hard. You cant have swapped headers as well as the rest of the exhaust. I know the headers have to be stock and all emission items must be used and in the factory location. So with that being said its almost impossible to have done due to the frame rails and header clearance. If I was you, and i hate to say it sell the car before you come, or let it be a trailer queen and enjoy it when you can.

MotoIQ did a full cali legal LS3 swap in an FD, and I believe Peter Tarach's (modified mag editor at one point) 240sx is LS3 cali legal swapped as well. I'm positive on the MotoIQ one, the majority of the swap is documented on their website. The Peter T. one is a black kouki type x hatch and if I am remembering correctly it was also done as an E-Rod cali legal swap, I may be wrong on this one but hey it's a free start.

Key things for Cali Legal swap:
(I could be wrong about some of this now also this is IMO) Same year or newer motor to the chassis So it would be have IE 98 motor going into a 97 chassis Same class motor So can't swap a truck motor into a sedan or coupe Motor has no EGR otherwise you need a Carb Legal Header So a motor without a EGR you can sure your own header. There's a bunch of other ones like fuel shit but these are the biggest things IMO. There are 50 state Carb legal crate motors but that's a totally a different game but those would work too.

Very interested in this as well, I saw that the ls3 erod is smog legal but read that it was only legal for older cars up to 1995 obd1 cars, however chevy tested and passed it on a 2004 gto. So does this really mean that this engine is only smog legal for obd1 cars only? I ask because I have a 1998 and was really looking for a surefire smog legal option. And if they used a 2004 gto I think carb should allow cars other than obd1 as well.
