The link above gives you a general idea of the differences between 1, 1.5 and 2-way clutch-type LSDs.

For general street driving a 1.5 way or Quaife (aka helical) is a good bet. For the more experienced a 2 way is better in most situations.

A 2-way provides a great deal of lock (both rear wheels are forced to travel at the same speed) so the car will resist turning when the gas or brake is applied. This is great for a race car as it allows better grip and makes for better racing lines. But in street driving with many unskilled drivers, that lock can make the car massively understeer or oversteer. It can also make the transition from understeer to oversteer very abrupt and hard to control. This is the diff you want if you are or want to be a serious drifter, the other diffs will allow better drifting than a open-diff, but a 2-way allows for massive braking drifts that are hard to achieve with anything else.

A 1.5-way provides the best of a 2-way with very little downsides. Some compare it to a Quaife (Helical LSD) because they are both better than a VLSD, but provide less of the drawbacks of a full 2-way diff. Like the link stated, a 1.5 is overall less efficient when racing a car, but is overall more forgiving.

A 1-way works like a VLSD only provides much faster lockup. There is zero lockup during braking so you can steer and brake at the same time (you shouldn't be doing this if you know how to drive...).

I'd reccomend a 1.5-way or Quaife for a street car, but it all depends on what kind of driver you are and whether you are going to track the car. A quaife isn't as good for drag racing since it isn't a true LSD like a clutch type is. With a clutch type if one wheel is in snow, while the other is on tar, you will still turn both wheels. With a quaife the wheel in the snow will get all or nearly all of the power like an open diff. The quaife does have the benefit of allowing a smoother transistion between understeer and oversteer.

EDIT: one quick question for the OP, you said it's for the open diff owners and will use the stock driveshaft...does that mean you don't need OE halfshafts from a VLSD equipped 240 too? I'm pretty sure I don't, but wanted to be positive...interested in this...could you PM me the price too

You are correct. You do not need anything from a VLSD to put this one into your open diff pumpkin.
