I’m interested in VR but my rig is not powerful enough. My 470 struggles.

I’ll believe it when they unlock the drivers to not shut down when non-Nvidia drivers are active. The blocking of hybrid PhysX pissed me off a lot.

Thanks, I stalked eBay for quite some time. Got it for $541. I wanted to wait on 7nm but the 470 was not cutting it. Now I’m good until something beats the 2080ti for cheaper.
This card is such a huge jump in performance for me. The 470 couldn’t maintain 60fps in GTA V with reduced settings. Now I’m at 100+ fps with max settings.

I literally bought the same 1080ti at the same time. Sold my (2) 1070 cards and basically made out about even.
Smacked a kraken G12 bracket on the 1080ti and strapped an h100i v2 to it. I agree, I'll be hanging onto this for a little bit.

I'm long overdue for an update. Are there any buy/sell moves I can make to slowly bring myself up to speed without throwing money at a whole new build?

Your GPU is like 1050/460 performance so one of the sub $200(sales) 580's would be an upgrade. Anything more than a 580/1060 will be crippled by that CPU. Other than that you're looking at a new CPU/MoBo/RAM. Which depends on your budget. Looking at $400 to start. Least you have a good foundation of the SSD, PSU and I assume case.

I also forgot to mention, I game on this PC maybe once a month and it's non-intensive games such as Assetto Corsa and CS:GO. It's mostly used for productivity so I assume CPU and RAM are my priority. Would my upgraded CPU and RAM be bottlenecked by the GTX780 if I get one of the newer Ryzen cpu's and 16/32GB of RAM? I just want to be able to do tons of multitasking on dual monitors with no hesitation. Budget isn't too strict but I want to do this as cheap as possible and don't mind looking for deals on craigslist and ebay but I'm just not too sure on what to keep an eye out for CPU wise. |

Um.. Yes. Yes that 780 will be a bottleneck. Especially determined by what multiple monitors you're trying to attach to a single GTX 780. you should consider something like a 1070ftw or something, I just sold a pair of them for $220 each. Looks like their prices went up a hair though in the past 7 days. I honestly wouldn't personally recommend anything lower at this point. people are charging way too much for the lower cards right now ex; 980s selling for like $150 last I looked (keep in mind this was so brief, a blink would last longer) 16GB of ram would be just A-ok. Even @ 2133mhz. I'm going to stay out of the CPU portion, as I'm still stuck on suggesting a 7700k. Simply because I was lucky enough to get one that can hit 5.3GHz.

Ryzen needs ram speed. Your validation link says 5ghz which the majority(78%) of 7700k's not 5.3Ghz(Top 1%).

If you are going AMD: $200 - Ryzen5 2600. X's are just pre OC'd and you got that aftermarket cooler already. $75 B450 Motherboard. Don't need X470 $100 16gb(2x8gb) DDR4-3000, DDR4-3200, DDR4-3300, DDR4-3400(price) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z4dKdX

That validation link is pushing 1 year old, I was not aware that we were engaging in some form of pissing contest. I thought we were simply offering suggestions, my apologies.

A 780 is not going to bottleneck a Ryzen cpu. A bottle neck is more like when I had my 7950 and my Phenom one at 2.3ghz. The cpu could not keep up with the gpu that is a bottle neck. Once I upgraded to my 4690K the 7950 could hang with it just fine.
My cpu in terms of IPC is right around a 2600/2600X (I am oc to 4.ghz) and my 1080ti does not bottleneck the cpu. If you do get ryzen get faster ram than 2133. Ryzen loves faster ram. Some discusson on that https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comment...sweetspot_for/ Edit I also say 16gb as well. 32 is overkill for what you are doing.

Tomorrow should be awesome. Really excited to see what AMD announces and when it will be available. I'm ready to jump ship and never look back.
As for that whole nVidia to support freesync thing, I think it makes them look like shady dick heads. Why not just allow everyone to use it if they have a freesync monitor? Why do they find it necessary to "test" monitors and see what is up to their standard before enabling the feature that should already be there? Only good thing that will come from this is someone will mess with the driver and make it use-able on all freesync monitors which will be fantastic. Looking forward to enabling it on my monitor for sure. EDIT: JK, apparently nVidia will support all freesync monitors, but only will "certify" specific models.

I travel to Asia a lot and I wanted to have a portable gaming rig.
Here ya go. Case: NFS Skyreach 4 Mini Processor: Intel i7 8700 Graphics: GTX 1070 Mini 8gb Ram: 16gb DDR4 Ram SSD: Samsung 970 Pro NVME 512gb raid 0 Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-I Power Supply : HD-Plex 400W with Alienware 330w external power brick CPU Cooler: Cryorig C7-CU Mods: delidded CPU, liquid metal on CPU die and copper IHS mod P.S - You can totally tell I've owned a 240 by using ZIP ties on the cpu cooler fan. P.S.S - n00b discovery but I've discovered that running raid 0 for NVME on a z370 chipset is useless because maximum available # of PCI channels on the 8700 i7 chip Max # of PCI Express Lanes 16 |

I watched the keyneote. Radeon 7 is a direct competitor to the 1080ti/2080.
