ok well i was just wondering on my way home from my girlfriend's house. I was driving at about 80-85 mph and my tach is showing around 3500 rpms....when i hit the gas at this time i'm right pretty close to the sweet spot in my powerband and i can feel the "torquey" pull . When i floor it, my car seems to speed up surprisingly fast . My question is would it be better to downshift at that time? When you guys wanna take off at that speed do you downshift? Would it be worth the time to downshift when youre already there in the powerband? Don't you hate our 110 speed cut? (sorry that was a little off, but my hate forced me to throw it in there )

Downshifting to fourth at 80-85 will put you right around peak torque around 4500-4800rpm, and it'll pull all the way to the fuel cut at 115. You'll probably get there slightly quicker by shifting to 5th around 6000-6200rpm@105-110, throwing you back down to peak torque around 4500-4800rpm again.

If I'm cruising at 80 mph, I drop to third. Then I'm gone. I love downshifting.

Yeah for those who have Hondas, third at 80 is an option. Not that you can't do it an a 240. But it'll be real funny if you do! My car cuts out at a little over 120. Oh and downshifting to fourth at around 80, 85 in my opinion is perfect. Excellent pull.

Do you guys rev match to downshift at that speed? If I don't it just doesn't feel right...But if I do does it damage anything? I know its so much faster tho, so I'm not sure if I care!!

Edit: Also, is that 115 fuel cutoff in the s14 as well? I didn't notice it at all, but I don't think that 4th can go that high anyways. Ours is in 5th at 121 (per speedo). Yay or nay?

Revmatching causes less wear than not revmatching...you should revmatch. IIRC, fuel cut in 4th gear is ~6700rpm, so and S14 would just bounce the rev limiter at 115 in 4th since they redline at 6500.

On The OT subj. If you have an SR-20 you will notice there is no fuel cut. You can buy fuel cut limiters. They really help.

i used to own a '91 eclipse, bone stock i could down to 3rd at 90mph and sit at 6000rpm or so, but it would also top at 140mph, if that car could run for more than one week at a time, i would still have it.

y would you downshift into 3rd at 80mph
3rd gear goes about 90mph at the red line and for the 2 sec. 3rd it would be a waist of time just hit 4th

Thanks Lance, thats what I thought. I love that "new" power feeling when you see someone coming up on you and you downshift to fourth...usually they are confused on why you are all of a sudden pulling away!

With an SR the gears are very tall compared to the ka and downshifting to 3rd at 80 is an option But with a red line at about 7800 most everything is an option

BTW my SR eats up 'tegs all the time

OT: best integra story--

Some chump in a white modded 'teg runs in my ass so we start to play. I'm just tailgating him to show he can't get away. But then, get this, he puts his hand out the window and waves goodbye like he was going to burn NOS or something but all I heard was his "bee in a tin can" rattle and some exhaust smoke. After I finished laughing I just downshifted to fourth and ran by him at about 135-140 mph like he was standing still
