Need some guidance on installing a bodykit.

please if you can give me some tips and pointers on how to install a body kit, im using self tapping screws not zip ties. Like where i should drill the holes on the body. Would like it to be setup pretty nicely and have a nice fitment.

if its a good quality kit, the tabs will line up with the tabs on your car. make sure you line it up with the body lines, its best if someone helps you out. i'd recommend buying all new screw retainers that are originally used to hold up the splash shield in the wheels well.

Doing it right doesnt involve self tapping screws.
period.


But,.most of us do it that way.

First questions should be,

what kit did you get/or how much did you spend?

fiberglass?
chop fiberglass?
what kind of 240sx?

got pics?



I only use screws for my sideskirts. (and over fenders)

maybe 2 on the top of the door sill in the front and one in the middle area and 2 towards the back. usually body kits have a tabish thing thats on the sill part that sticks out a little more. put 2 in there.

guess you could use 2 self tappers in the front and rear wheel wells to connect it to the chasis.
Thats how mine came, but now days i use zipties. (my car is mainly track)


The front bumper can be done with 2 zipties, or use the stock bolts on those plates that connect the bumper to the fender.
The top of the front bumper should have a lip that will sit over the bracket thing that runs along the front of the bumper.
there is a piece conected to the back of that with 5 nuts.
Take it off, line your bumper up, cut in the groves to match this.
When your bumpers on and flush, put the metal strip back on, put the 5 nuts onto the bolts, and tighten it down to snug (not to tight).

Rear bumper??

I think it sits on the bumper support, and use screws to connect it into the wheel wells.
Also, there are 2 bolts per side by the tailights, those connect it too.



It may not make sense, till you take it apart.
Then its common sense.
just line it all up the best you can.
Cheap kits never fit right.
So just do your best.



I personaly dont have bumper supports, and use all zipties.
Its faster since my car is for track only (although its been my daily as well, lol)
Im a little crazy and really dont give a shit as welll, but thats just me.
i use self tappers instead of rivets because i have to take parts on and off, so rivets make no sense for me.



front bumper, 1 ziptie in each front wheel well, and hanging off the bracket under the front of the hood lip.
skirts, 1 ziptie in front of the wheel well holding the sideskirt, one on the back wheel well, and 3 screws across the sill itself.
rear bumper, 1 ziptie in each wheel well off the rear bumper, and 4 across the top of the bumper connected to the rear valance.

i didn't read the above post for reason the first line can explain so sorry if i repeat anything previously said.

basic steps, test fit, mark, double check, drill, test, install. other than that...

1. if you're puttin a kit on the right way as in just like your factory bumpers, use all your factory mounting spots and hardware.

2. if you're doin it on a 240 with flip up lights, make sure you put the brackets in where the fender meets the bumper (you'll know which ones when you see em) otherwise you'll look as shitty (imo) as the rest of the people with sagging front bumpers.

3. don't use sheet metal screws.

here's what i mean by using the factory mounting spots/hardware, marking, drilling...

im putting a kit on the 13 at school and everything you need to know has beeen said on how to instal it. the only comment i have is about the kind you got. if you got extreme dimensions(i dident decide were and wich to get btw) you can either send it back or throw it in the trash because it will never ever fit right. i promis. ive tried just about everything to get it to. my teacher ended up telling me to forget it and just make it look acceptable. however i do beleive if you got a quality kit your goiong to get better fitment. if you got extreme dimensions, i wish you luck man. i hope you know how to repair fiberglass.

I just got done test fitting my chaser aero kit. Seems like the front reinforcement bar won't fit behind it unless it's hacked up to almost nothing. i didn't see how some were marking the holes the the upper retainer until just now. i would like to know how others where marking the holes for the front bumper on a s14. Yo c72c did you screw or double tape the rear bumper under the taillights.

Also depends on your ride height.

If you're a finger away from the floor with fiberglass bumpers, I suggest using zipties instead of screws. It's better to break zipties trying to get into a driveway/parking lot than break mounting points.

or if you want to make it easy to take off you can use Dzus fasteners. that's how my fronts and rear are then i have the middle brackets on the front and zipties on the sides of the bumpers, then screws on the side skirts
