Key Snapped In Half

So last week I just bought a 1990 240sx se from a friend. Only got 1 key with the car. Well yesterday as i was unlocking my door my key tited and snapped in half. I have both halves. I called my local Nissan Dealer for a key code and it no longer exists (not to surprised). I was just wondering what you guys think i should do. Should i get new ignition and door and trunk cylinders or have a locksmith make me a new key? Need help fast. Its my daily driver!!

a mobile lock smith can cut you a new key for about $150.00... just call around, they can come to your house and do it in like 10 minutes.

pull out your glove box or trunk lock cylinder and bring it to a lock smith and have them cut a new key from the code on the cylinder.

A locksmith should be able to cut another key from your broken one. Find a locksmith shop in your area, bring him the key, see what he says...

^^^^^^^^
This is the easiest/best/cheapest way to do it. DON'T have them come to your house and pull the cylinder. That's why it costs so much.

Had the same thing happen to me, I super glued the two halves together and got a lift to the local locksmith (letting him know it was super glued), $20.00 and 5 minutes later I had three keys made, all a perfect fit.

Not sure about the dealership key code, but I usually bring out my registration and ID to the dealership. If you called they are not going to give you the code without proving ownership.

how do you cut a titanium key? isnt titanium pretty strong and you need a blade stronger than titanium to cut it?? same reason why you cant use a steel blade to cut a dimond...

The key cutter wheels are made from carbide.
So it is possible to get them cut :-)

I agree. But his post was so vague, it had me wondering if he was selling those. I did a quick google and found his ebay listings. Pretty cool items.

ive actually never seen a titanium silvia key.
the one i have is for my Z, and the key cutter had no problem cutting it.
i was replacing the z key because it was so damn worn out. i brought in the key and the key itself had the code (number) stamped into it. from that, the key cutter man looked it up on his computer/database/file/whatever the fuck and was able to print out what the key was supposed to look like (again like i said it was worn the fuck out and had lost a lot of it's edges etc) and from that i think he put the info into an automatic key maker?

i dont think every key maker has this equipment, though.

Definitely find a locksmith. I paid around 325-350 back in 06 for an entire set including new keys, ignition cylinder, door locks, glove box lock, and the rear trunk/garnish lock. Not sure about pricing or availability these days.

If you have the key code (It should be in your glovebox, on a sticker, if the box is original) then you can take it to any 'good' lock smith, especially one that specializes in vehicles, along with proof of ownership (title/registration and a photo ID) and get one cut. I had to do this like 3 years ago, and it cost me $20 for two keys.

Or like everyone else said, pull one of the cylinders (glovebox is easiest) and take to a good lock smith.

LMAO! this happened to me, broke my key in the ignition. If you have both halves and want to try a cheap fix, go to Home Depot. If you're lucky they'll be able to copy the broken key for under $5.

I tried it and it worked for me, good luck.
