Noise at differential/driveshaft

Hi guys,

I am getting a clunking noise during decel (foot off gas).

Jacked the car up, this is what is happening:

I am getting noise and play at the driveshaft / differential.

I have a new 1pc DSS alum driveshaft and an old 2way diff.

Does my diff need reshimming?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for feedback. Whining i would not worry too much.

There is a loud clunk seems like the same noise as the movement from the play. Just wondering if this is normal for a 2 way diff and aluminum driveshaft

mines does something similar, aluminum DS and a welded dif, I always assumed it was play between the pinion and ring gear and when u let of the gas instead of the pinion turning the ring gear the ring gear catches up and starts turning the pinion. mines not very noticeable tho

That is excessive side shaft play. I would check spec in the manual and get that resolved. Could be a faulty snap ring inside the diff.

I would tend to agree with a possible diff issue. You can take the half shafts out of diff but once they are in diff they should not be moving in and out like that.
