‘95 240sx won’t move when in drive

Hey everyone I have a problem with my automatic transmission in my ‘95 240sx and I’m trying to figure out a possible problem and get a solution for it. I did some digging already throughout the forum but nothing matches my problem but people say it may be a transmission solenoid.

My problem: when I put the car in drive it won’t move it acts as if it’s in neutral (when pressing on the gas it revs).
To get it to engage into drive I either:
1) wait maybe 3mins max then the car engages into drive.
2) stick the car into 1st or 2nd then drive a little bit slowly down the road and slip the shifter back and forth into drive until drive does engage.

I’ve checked my transmission fluid and it’s good. I just really don’t know the problem. Other than that the car runs great and drive smoothly once drive is engaged.

Your best bet is to find some one selling or giving away an auto trans(with intact wiring!) and swap it out. Should only take 2 hours with some beer breaks.

Sounds like a bad valve body to me.

You can replace that pretty easily, just make sure to pay attention to the float balls and there positions.

But for the price of one, youd be better off either finding a used trans, or making the most of the situation and doing a 5 speed swap
