I am trying to find a 95 or newer 240sx for a winter project. I have been looking and found plenty but are 5,6,7k dollars. Although these are good prices, its pointless to pay that much for a car I am planning on just tearing down and rebuilding up this winter. If anyone knows of any good deals, I know drifterx had posted a little ways back about one in texas dont know if its still available would be great since im in texas...thanks for any help

If your not willing to pay $5,000 for a 95' or newer then I think your better off getting a 89' to 94' 240sx. Your not gonna find one cheaper then 5k

two things...yes you can find cheaper.....autotrader has one that is ungodly high miles like a quarter million miles for 4000, I just bought mine with 2100 miles (sent money off today) for 3500$ and 725$ to get it here from CA. Mine will have 21800 miles on it and needs paint. So yes you can find one, but be patient, very patient. What kind of buildup are you looking at

Ive actually found a couple on autotrader right now that are 4 but there autos and I dont want to go through and do a conversion if I am just patient. Below is what I plan on doing:

Phase 1:
Strip out all interior and removable pieces for a complete repaint.
sr20det s13 (maybe s14 just because its newer)
greddy intake manifold
apexi dunk or blitz nur exhaust
hks ss bov
greddy fmic
greddy downpipe (may save money and just have one made but at 175 its not that bad)
assorted guages to make things pretty
hks camp (if i can find the harness)

Phase 2:
gt2835
550cc possibly higher injectors
light flywheel
possibly cams depending on powerband as it sits with phase 1

Phase3:
carbon fiber s15 frontend conversion
springs
short shifter

thats what I have so far but its still preliminary, my goal is to have phase 1 completed before june of 2002, and phase 2 by the end of sept 2002 and phase 3 probably over the winter again.

The reason If I care if its an automatic, its not just like im gonna drop the tranny in and viola it works..you still have to go through the whole process of setting the clutch, bolting it, mounting all the hardware and clutch cables, and I forgot the clutch slave cylinder and hydraulic lines..thats a fun thing to
..If I find a good deal on an automatic sure Id go for it but I would pay a little extra to have one already setup for manual..

it's just not the same as switching out an automatic to a manual, sure it's done a lot, just means more work. if there's a good deal on an automatic i'd go for it 2.

Ok not being rude by any means but I think your a little short on how you would do an automatic to manual swap. Think of it like this, you have an automatic do you have a clutch that you shift your gears with. Yes I know I get a 5speed tranny when I purchase an sr for a swap but....that does not mean I can just put the tranny in and it work, I mean I could put it in but the first time I try to shift do you think its going to work, what is going to release and apply the clutch plate on the tranny to allow me to shift gears...The best way I could go about it would be to get a front clip, but I would have to investigate if right hand equipment would work on a left hand car if not Im sure I can scavange any junkyard and find the parts...I know what they are and even have an article on how to do it, its just more soley to me that if came from the factory that way it would be less hassle..I mean people dont charge 500-1000 dollars to do an automatic to manual swap because its a piece of cake..

if you're swapping an engine, its not that much more work to swap the transmission as well. youre talking about a year-long project. what is one day? besides, if youre dismantling the whole car, the process will go even faster.
