RaY's Ver3.1 S14

I've been fighting the urge to do this but figured I'm far enough into this. I basically parted out my Silvia in Japan, gave the shell to buddy of mine since it still had JCI and brought all my parts back. I had an SR20DET strapped to a GT3582R but I ended up blowing the engine 4 months before I left, so I scrapped that. Traded anything and everything SR related I had for something else.

Anyways, came back stateside and was on a hunt for an S14. Found this POS in Wilmington NC for $2500. 189k on it, KA has shitty compression but runs (140-145psi), leaks/burns oi, stock HG is probably about to die blown front shocks due to lowering springs.

Put in all my old suspension parts, seats, wheels, hood and headlights from my old S14.

What I got in it: Topline Aragosta coilovers, Cusco sway bars, Cusco tension rods, Nismo power brace, Tien Tie rods with MR tie rod ends, Cusco toe arm, Cusco RUCA, MR traction rods, Tomei 2 way, R33 brakes up front and R32 brakes in the rear.

Then did this,

Found out real fast that it had a stock clutch since it started slipping after an hour into it.

Car basically sat like this for almost a whole year.

Then one of the TSX headlight ballast went out. Instead of buying another $120 ballast from ebay, just decided to put on my kouki front end. Added a Dmax wing and swapped on my Zenki sideskirts too.

Went drifting with the KA a 2nd time after replacing the clutch and it just wasnt cutting it.

So finally pulled my RB25 out of the box and started working on it.

With the notorious crank snout...almost all RBs have this with the exception of the R33 RB26s and up. Most RB25s have this issue.

Basically went OEM gasket kit, ARP studs, Nismo thermo, N1 oil pump and N1 water pump. Decided to freshen up a block a bit by going red.

Got the engine put together for the most part. Real Greddy Intake manifold and an older Apexi IHI RHC6 turbo kit. Should be good enough to get me to about 400hp.

Took me a second to figure out which is my good clutch...

Pulled the KA out, was thinking of keeping my AC but I broke the drier so I'll just pull it all out. I'm using Mckinney Mounts and had to do alot of cleaning to get all the old grime out.

RB in the engine bay

But I got some issues. I guess I didnt bang the tunnel enough, so I may have to pull it out again. Bang the starter area in and bang the whole tunnel out, to help you move the engine in.

The elbow for the turbo kit wouldnt clear the steering shaft, even after massaging it some. So I replaced the Mckinney mounts with something taller for the driver side.

External wastegate touches the brake booster so I had to bang it in a bit and grind down the lip on the wastegate.

Lastly, the speed sensor kinda touches this area. Wouldnt hurt to bang it in a bit just to make sure it wont touch.

And this is about where I'm at. The Air Force decided that they'll send me away for 6 weeks a couple of days after I pulled the KA out without notice. So I should be working on getting this thing back on the road mid to late Sept.

Things I need to do when I get back, run the Wiring Specialties harness, intercooler piping for FMIC, trim the bumper for the cooler, run my oil cooler, install my Defi gauges and calibrate the tach. Once i get the car running, I'll toss in my PFC, 550cc, Z32 MAF and get it tuned. Hopefully I can get one more Driftwater Event under my belt before the end of the year.

Well, got the swap in and got it finally running this weekend. Had to work some bugs out and almost had a heart attack Sat night cuz I thought I blew the RB25 tranny. Turns out, it was just the shifter bushing popping off and breaking.

I ended up just using the Mckinney engine mounts, using solid mounts since I wanted to raise the engine up a bit higher. With the poly/hockey puck style mounts it came with, the oil pan same lower than the cross member. I dont like the idea of me ripping the damn oil pan off since I got the car fairly low. I went with a pre-made Wiring Specialties harness, car started right up within 5 seconds of initially firing it up. I ended up not running my IHI turbo, I couldnt clear the steering shaft with the elbow, even after I beat/massage the crap out of it. Plus I figued, I want the car up any running first. So stock turbo, stock injectors and stock ECU went in. With the extra weight, car feels heavy as hell. I think I'll need to either get my aragostas rebuilt at Fortunes or just get some new coilovers. They can't keep up with the extra weight and the car actually got lower by a good inch up front.

Stop being a fucking hater Greg...I vol'd to get the fuck out of here but I guess I'm not good enough to go to Korea even tho I have no short tour/remote yet.

Anyways, I dont have much of an update. I got my 550cc injectors in, PFC, Z32 MAF and LM1 wideband. I still need a tune but I got a timing map from Steve Shadows and atleast the car is decent.

Took out the stock oil filter/oil cooler block and also rerouted the water lines under the intake manifold. Installed a Raw Brokerage oil filter stud. Found out the hardway that the stock oil filter block stud is brittle as hell.
