Connecting rod bearing
Hey guys ! I'm interested in buying a 1990 200SX (european model) that's been sitting untouched for about a year, and I'm just a beginner in the mechanical stuff so I need some advice.I was talking to the owner today, and he said that the connecting rod bearing in 4th piston needs to be replaced.Other than that, it's supposed to be fine. What's your opinion on this? What could cause it to fail? Is it safe to assume that afer replacing the bearing it will be running good?
Thanks. And sorry if my english isn't that great . |

You will be rebuilding the entire engine. One does not simply "replace" rod bearing with little experience/knowledge
Sloppy clearance, or poor oil pressure usually leads to spinning bearings

Well to replace the rod bearing you either need to pull the engine or suspend the engine and drop the subframe. Without checking the crank and refinishing it you're asking for trouble. That's a lot of cash to spend trying to bandaid a problem

Looks like replacing them would be quite complicated (expensive)...so I should probably walk away from this car then.Shame, since this is the only 200sx I've ever seen in my country. Thanks for your answers tho

if i were you i would buy it, part out the motor thats in it (engine head, all sensors, etc) and then buy a good second hand motor and drop that bad boy in. if your looking for a slight project that is! (swapping an engine is much much easier and requires less knowledge than rebuilding one) good luck on your search for a 200!
