If you want the best dampers, skip the jdm stuff and look at Koni, Moton,or Penske. But then again, I doubt that most of us on here are capable of outdriving the commonly available "over the counter" setups either.

I just went through this a few weeks ago. Moton does not make anything for the s13 so I went with Zeal function B6 heavy duties since they were in stock in the US at the time (only one set).
The tien RE is in the same league, as well as the cusco 02R. you can see my zeals here... http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg

penske, good konis(not the crap available to major public), and so on are custom spec'd setups. cost is alot more than ohlins. but yeah, i have a set of ra's. awesome on track/prepped surface. low vs high speed valving is bad for mountain runs. my .02 on all the coilovers is rest of car will hit max potential before a 2.5k + coilover setup. the jdm vs domestic argument... its wrong to say one is better than another. here is the problem. its just two different approaches. jdm is for less bar. its just 2 different approaches. less bar setups are very similar to open wheel cars(or hachis). domestic is for settup with more bar. more bar is for heavier sedan cars(i.e. camaros and mustangs). personally i think the domestic apporach is wrong for a car weighing 2600 lbs. if possible try cars with them both, see what u like... i dont like heavy bar setups,(inside tire lifts too much) and also nose points at the sky><. i ran a 3600 lb GM G body for 3 years and it needed bar. ive ran my 2600 lb s13 and have concluded that bar is wrong approach for this chassis. so no im not just a jdm crazed jackass. ive tried both spectrums, and have seen where either spectrum is the optimal solution. as a side note, when i first switched to ra's, a pure track guy gave me some advice, heres what i got from his seat of the pants settup observations. street coilovers have a wide trim vs race coilovers have slim trim. this means street coilovers will have an above average feel/usage on a wide variety of corners/surfaces. race coilovers when set will have a slimmer trim(can be tuned to many situations, but generally speaking setting will not cope with a wide variety of situations in one setting). this means jdm race coilovers can be set at either road or track settups, but he said they in fact will feel harsh when properly tuned, until u hit speed, at which point it will come into its own. i have begun to see this. heavy barred cars(domestic settups) dont see as much of this because they are more forgiving over rough roads. in summary the domestic settup will be comfortable on street, and good track performance, whereas "jdm" "circuit" settup performance will not feel nice at all on the street(in comparison to domestic settup), but will really come into its own when pushed. just my novel, hope its a NY times best seller... edit: also apex proN1's for our chassis are pretty damn good for street/track applications, as compared to my ra's which are pretty choppy on the street. ohlins coilover is about 950 a pieceshipped to hawaii....really good koni is about 1k a piece, not including the rest of the stuff to convert to it... 950 x 4 = more than 3k>< to buy a penske, sell a kidney
