They could be done with the head one just have to make sure the valve doesnt drop. Then you will have to take it off anyways.

yea, you can do change these out with the head still on the block, from what i was told by a mechanic, you would have to use an air compressor and have a fitting inside the spark plug holes and keep air in each cylinder so that the valves wont drop while ur taking retainers and stuff off to get to the valve seals....

if i'm incorrect, someone please correct me...thanks

Another trick I've seen for us shade-tree mechanics is to fill the cylinder with string when it not at TDC...then turn the motor over to TDC on that cylinder, and the pisont will go up, stuff the string against the head, and hold the valves in place.

...

As for pulling the valve springs...it'll be quite hard to compress the springs without the Nissan tool for it, so I reccomend AT LEAST that tool. Doing it by hand is damn near impossible, and unsafe.

Haha, the string idea is awesome. its probably what i'll end up doing cuz the only fitting I know of threaded for spark plugs is my compression guage and Im not so sure i can adapt it to my hose.

Thanks. I'll look into that valve spring tool if my dad doesnt have something adequate.
