Exclamation Kinda Random Transmission Question

So I bought a 5 speed trans recently and I'm planning to swap my car soon. But in the meantime I wanted to keep the gears and everything inside nice and lubed up to prevent any rusting because the trans was left out in the rain once I believe. But anyways what I'm asking is I put ATF in it to keep the internals covered. Will that do any harm to it? Whenever it's time for the swap I'm gonna drain it all out and fill it up with some cheaper gear oil, run it for about 100 miles, then drain and fill with some higher quality gear oil.

I always run some cheap gear oil through them, once or twice, just to be safe. Sometimes the engines sit in unsavory places for years.... and it never hurts to flush them out. Same thing with the engine, first startup you bet I let it run for 20 minutes with cheap 10-30 then change that @#)(#@ right away.

ATF into the 5 speed? I wouldn't do that.

I'm not gonna run it with ATF. I just wanted something in there to pick up any water and to keep the gears lubed up so they wouldn't rust. ATF is cheaper than gear oil so I went with that. I know it's a bad idea to actually run it with ATF, but I don't think it sitting in it before it goes in will hurt anything. I hope.
