That is why prenups should almost always be done to reduce legal complications afterwards.
Decide beforehand between you & your SO what terms are fair.
What the government (or Zilvia.net) deems appropriate,
might not be something always be shared by every individual.

IMO, the terms of every marriage should be decided by the individuals directly involved as standard procedure.
There shouldn't even have to be a prenuptual to establish something like that.

To be fair, it's no longer the 1950's.
It's not realistic to have one spouse's paycheque support the entire family these days.
(esp in such an expensive state to live such as CA)
Unless you're a minimum wage slave, it's generally cheaper to have both parents work & hire day care.
Lets not assume it's the wife who would always make less, and be the first to give up their career.

The only benefit I can see with a mandatory 50/50 asset split after a divorce,
is to discourage those fake marriages whereas the wife/husband does so to get US citizenship/green card, or something like that.
