The only way to get real change, more fuel efficient cars is for gas to GO UP and
make people switch to those cars. Whats the point of cheap gas and fuel efficient cars ? I works against itself.

That said, there's a stupid fear of nuclear power in this country. "Clean" technology clearly isn't where we want it to be and Americans have proved time and time again to be unable to understand that concessions must be made. Nuclear power seems like a good "temporary" power source until solar/wind/fusion/etc. really takes off.

Agreed. Fewer people on the road + people driving slower = great.

You guys stop making sense!
RJF wants to blame the democrats, and dammit you're going to let him do it.
We're to ignore that OPEC is "Cartel," as we are what cartels, by definition usually do. We should also ignore that OPEC is 12 countries (at least 3 of which are "bad guys," WTF?!) deep, most of whom make the majority of their money from what they're sitting on, and they have the power to cut production and drive the prices back up.
Frankly, I have been EXPECTING $4.00/gallon gas to come back for months now, and I was not going to sit back and make a post blaming it on the democrats.

... I mean, because we KNOW that everything is the Democrats' fault as it is, especially since Barack Hussein Jesus Christ Obama has had all the powers of a sitting president since before he was even elected. Why would we give him the chance to make right, in the face of 8 prior years of inexcusable fail?
We won't even get into "clean coal," which strikes me as an oxymoron in itself. How much time and energy that could be used elsewhere go into the "cleaning" of this? Ever heard of the Rube Goldberg Machine?
Diminishing returns anyone?

I won't be surprise the gas will be 5 or 6 bucks when spring comes...So far in NYC, the cheapest is $1.79/87 $1.99/89 and $2.09/93 and it stayed that way for awhile now. Sunoco jumped from $2.09 to $2.15 for 93, im like WTF?

If ANWR drilling were approved this year, the first drop of oil wouldn't come out until 2012, and the peak output would only be 780,000 barrels per day (peaking at that number in 2027).

US oil consumption TODAY is 20.8 million barrels per day, and it's estimated to be 39 million barrels per day in 2027. This means that total ANWR yield, at peak, will only be 2% of estimated domestic consumption.

I'm not anti-drilling, so long as it's done responsibly I don't have any issue with it, I'm all for exploring all available options, but pro-drilling nuts need to realize that it's more a psychological aid than anything else. The sum total of all remaining US oil reserves will not make a discernible impact on real energy prices now or ever.

It is NOT short term relief because it is not available in the short term, it will take 10 years to "turn the tap on".

If we still really need that 2% extra in 2027, if we're still primarily using oil for transportation, we've got much bigger problems.

Again, let's drill until we're blue in the face, but it's just a political "gimme". It isn't a real solution, and it'll never have any kind of material impact on pricing. Anyone who asserts otherwise is either misinformed or lying, period.

there is already plenty of oil in chartered areas, no need to add to the destablilization of the enviroment.

recently oil companies have scaled back production to propigate supply v demand, POLICY has nothing to do with why the price of gas is rising.

Me too, $1.97/gallon for 93 octane at a BP...
I was angrier that I had to stand in 11° weather to do it than I was that it will likely double just as quickly as it fell.

only thing is it evaporates pretty quick so instead of 55 gallons it'll be more like 48

Florida has the nicest beaches in the US, it really sucks that everybody is so eager to destroy them.

The most I paid was last summer @ $4.71/gallon for the M35x.....and that was when I was doing an average 60 mile commute M-F. Ever since I moved and prices dropped, I've saved a bit....but I'm pretty sure prices will hike back up and my recent move will be worth it. All I'm saying is the price of oil and gasoline is very manipulative and it's sad how short sighted some people can be. I really hope there is a push for alternatives despite this "low oil" we are having. Everyone should know that this price drop is here to keep people from looking at alternatives and creating a justification to invest into them.

america has always had cheap gas so of course who cares if all our cars guzzle it.
whereas most foreign countrys dont have cheap gas, so instead they build more efficient cars. this is the way our country should be moving. 40+mpg cars should be more common place, without this "hybrid" non-sense. saw a "hybrid" silverado at the car show, thing still only gets 20mpg. lame.
I agree, this country needs a push for more fuel efficient cars.

Bush is still president.

Already discussed ANWR and how there is hardly any oil there.

Gas prices are cheap in the winter and expensive in the summer(more people drive). Diesel is cheap during the summer and expensive in the winter(fuel oil for heating comes from the same stock as Diesel). Gas prices will go up in the spring time.

I'm waiting for coal to gasoline refineries. The projected price per gallon is around 40 cents. We have more coal than the world has ever had oil so the supply should last quite a while. That couple with more fuel efficient cars is the future of internal combustion in my opinion.

Increased foreign dependence, decreased supply, and back-breaking fuel prices: Why settle for less when you can have it all? - Jeff_Emanuel’s blog - RedState

In June 2008 amidst an energy crisis and the highest gas prices since the Carter years (not counting the few days after Katrina), President Bush an executive order banning new U.S. offshore drilling. Three months later, a federal moratorium on OCS drilling was allowed to expire by Congress for the first time since the Regan administration. A ban on shale oil was allowed to expire, as well.

Now, the Obama administration and the Democrat Congress, both of whom pay lip-service to making America more energy independent, are seriously considering once again legislating utter American dependence on foreign countries like Venzuela and Saudi Arabia.

Ken Salazar (D-CO), Barack Obama’s nominee to be Secretary of the Interior, has “said he will consider restoring parts of an expired federal ban on offshore oil drilling,” according to CNSNews. When asked how extensive a ban he thought it best to impose, the utterly informed, qualified, and prepared nominee reportedly said, “I have no idea.”

Perhaps, like his prospective boss, Salazar is leaving his then-confident campaign and confirmation rhetoric on the trail and in the hearing room, and is waiting until he is actually in office to “start the process of deciding what to do.”

Last fall, “House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) promised that reinstating the ban “will be a top priority for discussion next year” in the 111th Congress, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) tried unsuccessfully to reinstate part of the ban via the year-end continuing resolution.

“Obviously many of us want to have a general ban,” said Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), referring to the sense of the Democrat-led 111th Congress.

Of course, we all know there’s no quicker way to get America on track toward energy independence than preventing us from manufacturing our own energy here, right? That seems to be what Obama’s White House energy advisor Carol Browner thinks. According to The Wall Street Journal, “Ms. Browner has been a critic of proposals to loosen restrictions on oil and natural gas drilling in the outer continental shelf, arguing that such moves would do little to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil and risk damaging U.S. coastlines.” Um, right. The illogical reality of Liberalism strikes again.

Combine this from Salazar and Browner with Steven Chu, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Obama has tapped to be his energy secretary. Chu, of course, told the WSJ in September ‘08, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” Wouldn’t that be great? $6 or more for a gallon of gasoline!

Now that’s just what a nation of people who can’t pay their mortgages, are in danger of losing their jobs, and whose incoming president is bragging about dragging their national deficit over $1 trillion for the next several years running, needs.

Ah well; all you can say is “elections have consequences.” If you put a group of far-left neo-socialists who have no grasp of reality or of history in charge of both houses and the presidency, you’re going to get far-left, neo-socialistic policy that has no grounding in reality or in the lessons of past policy failures.
