Awesome update!!! Can't wait to see production of that wheel. Been thinking of messing with current designs of wheels and/or creating my own designs of wheels, seeing that I do have SolidWorks on my rarely-used PC laptop...

I dont like the DZUS quarter turn design. Aesthetically they dont like a quality product. Aerocatch is nice, but too bulky to be used to hold on the bumpers and side skirts.

Functionally they will all work, but the Quik Latch products will do it in an aesthetically pleasing way. Plus they are very compact and have a 30 degree range of misalignment so mounting them to non parallel panels is a breeze!

On the left are the various components designed to make the installation of the new extended rear strut towers a breeze. To the right is a prototype Hydraulic "E-Brake" mount.

Passenger side strut tower is welded into position.

Such a big difference compared to the stock driver side!

Driver side was much easier, just a repetition of steps.

Now to add the structural bracing, simple strut brace welded at the highest possible position on the towers.

Both rear down tubes are cut to length and notched using and angle grinder due to the complexity of the joints. I also added a brace from the upper door bar/harness bar node to the rear main hoop down tube/upper strut tower node.

Now its starting to look RAD! All tube connections are welded, wheels are on, and its sitting on its own weight.

Weld Corn

Rear clip will make a nice addition soon! Its just mocked up for now.

Great progress dude, those rear strut towers are on point and I really like what you did with them. One thing though, I quoted the very small connection from harness bar to the downtube on the main hoop and was curious if you know how common it is do that?

I remember seeing it on your last half cage but was always intrigued by it as I feel like I haven't seen that on many other cages because they usually tie them directly together and just bend out the drivers side of the harness bar. Not trying to get too nerdy but I've always looked at those type of connections as dead nodes. Any comment?

Thanks! Coffee helps quite a bit. haha

Are you talking about the tiny 1.5" long brace between the main hoop diagonal bar and the harness bar? I was having trouble under standing what brace you are referring to.

Im not too sure how common it is to do that. I do see the typical harness bar configuration you are talking about. Thats how my old autopower roll bar was set up.

I chose to do it the way I did for symmetry, the small brace between the harness bar and diagonal bar maintains the strength you would have with a typical harness bar configuration. I have seen it done with way, but they never have a brace between the two tubes which is odd.

This is a very late update on the build. Long story short, I have a shop now and have been busy, Street Faction Engineering is now located in Santa Fe Springs, CA.

Rear clip is now welded to the capped off frame rails right behind the subframe.

I felt the rear clip needed some bracing so I added two vertical braces the new rear strut towers.

TIG welded in their final place.

So from this point on you will notice a change of location. That's because I finally got a shop. My friend Kyle helped me out by towing the vert over to the shop as of May 1, 2015.

Here is the warehouse with a few of my customers cars as we were moving in. I had the new low profile Bendpak lift installed along with all the required 220v wiring and outlets to power all of the shop equipment. These were some very exciting and exhausting times.

This is Mikey, he's our new welder and is helping me tack all of the newly added tubes to the current structure.

The final pieces to the puzzle. A frame tube is bent, notched, and tacked in place along with the vertical bracing that ties into the door bars.

Start of the rear X brace.

I can't believe the cage work is finally nearing completion.

Tight fit at the highest point of the window frame.

Here I am tack welding the last tube of the car. The lateral bracing for the A frame

All the new joints are ready to be welded!

Some of the new welds holding the new joints together.

Looking super amazing. I am curious however how you are notching these tubes really well to fit perfectly. I am really quick to get a good notch on stuff like the X brace and what not but normally a merge takes me awhile to get it perfect.

As usual though, wonderful work. Been following you on Instagram and Facebook in awe with each fab post. Wonderful job and congrats on the shop. Definitely deserve it.

I had to stop and check this thing out at FDIRW and even my wife (who really couldn't care less about cars) was impressed with all the work in this thing. Top notch craftsmanship for sure duder and I like that you're taking your time to do everything just so, rather than cutting corners to meet some arbitrary deadline. Bravo.
