Just finished up painting the bay now i can start to reassemble the bay and get it ready to drop the motor back in when it comes back from the machine shop. i am really hoping that it doesn't take too long for the rebuild so i can get it running again and start breaking in the motor.
I made a little space to contain the overspray but i am looking into a booth to possibly buy within the next year and start doing some collision repair work on the side for some extra money once i start my career in November.

Started re assembling everything in the bay tonight.
Also talked to the machine shop and gave him the go ahead on the build, hopefully i will have the motor back in 1 month tops.

Not the prettiest of welds but they are strong and the panel is nice and secure. Next i will probably use some seam sealer adhesive on the welds and rust proof it so this doesnt happen again.

Got the gas tank out of the car and i am looking for a new tank if anyone has one i need it shipped to 02021 paypal ready. Would like it to come with sending unit too.

Getting a wheel bearing replaced while i have the time too.

I would advise you to practise a little more with that welder, perhaps watch a few YouTube videos. Look like spit balls

I agree about the welds, what you made ins't a crucial part so don't worry about it, but your welds seem to be on the colder side and a porous, If you're using flux-core there's not much you can do about porosity, but if it's a gas mig try adding more gas flow and higher heat with slightly lower wire speed so that you can get flatter more consistent beads, also when mig welding for a nice even finish make little cursive L's with the torch while you're running your bead. Chucke2009 would be an excellent YouTube channel to watch to learn how to get better with your machine.

Some of it is a bit ugly, but it is very secure. any more heat id be burning through the 22 gauge metal. The metal is stainless so i think a big factor is that i dont have stainless welding wire.. But it worked out fine and im happy with it.

sick first build man, this is impressive. i had a POS S14 when i was 16 but wrecked it before i could ever do much to it. then joined the military, built a wrangler, bought a 370z and did a small boost build with it, sold the jeep and now i'm doing another s14. glad you didnt let the morons drag you down. sure there were a few things i'd have done differently, but as a first build at your age, learning the hard way teaches the best lessons, like I learned and many other good mechanics did who taught me.. and its still hard not to impulse buy or throw money at it just to get it up and on its feet. great work though, seriously, and you're well on your way to being a great mechanic. a lot of people can't do their own work like this.. and I think that, coupled with you having money to pay for a lot of it, makes them salty and angry. i just laugh.

Havent really done much at all with the car since last pic. It starts up no problem, but needs a tune. right now its sitting on my trailer waiting for me to drop it off for the tune.

I just graduated high school in June and i also financed a duramax, and got another German Shepherd as my last shepherd passed in 2013.

Yea thanks man its a fun trade especially if you find a good nitch doing a little bit of everything, i might end up going into the union for machine operating but i am not too sure. For now i got a good gig going so im safe haha

Damn, I have been following this thread since I was in high school lol. I haven't been on zilvia in a hot ass minute but i'm glad i found this thread again. Lots of great work man. I wish I had a job like that while i was in high school, that "1jz hatch" project may have happened that i mentioned in my previous comment on here like 2 years ago lol. Since then i have sold that shell i had mentioned, hated the thought of 240s for a bit (I was butthurt i had to sell mine), then bought another hatch in august 2015 and now i also have an e85 KA-T S14... s-chassis are worse than drugs. Keep it up man! I love the build, this is one of the few builds that i haven't minded being sr (I'm a ka guy). Stoked to see what you have in store for this car man!

And for the blunt comment, I am a very knowledgeable dog owner and grew up with a shepherd before this guy, and i have socialized him with all types of people in different sizes, races, etc, so you don't have to worry.

If only i had the 3M Belt sander.. one of the best tools money can buy for this type of work.

Also finally really got my welder to dial in once i got to the bottom of the rocker.. never could get the thing to settle in right but its welding nice now. I got some more rocker patch work to do this weekend so i will take some good pics. I am going to start to use a camera too..

Crazy thread dating back to after I left the game, and here I come back and there's 3 years of passion in this thread. Cool. Use proper PPE and carry on

Haha thank you, in the past 2 years of high school and now work i have learned the proper technique to fix body work and prep correctly etc so now its just a must that i make my car perfect... Big update tomorrow.

Hahaha funny you say that but after all that time when i finally got to the bottom of that rocker i got the welder adjusted how it should be..making that perfect sound and everything. i will post some pictures.
