If you guys got the cams out might as well upgrade to BC springs and skip the TI retainers if budget is tight

Just wanted to thank everyone for this thread, its an amazing wealth of information. I'm not even completely finished reading it yet.
Quick back story, a few years ago I had an S14 SR swap w/T67 H.O/AEM EMS setup in the car. Fuel cell, Bosch pump, etc. Built the head built w/solid lifters, springs retainers, cams, etc, but stock bottom end. It didn't like 8700rpms. After that I decided instead of building the SR, I would swap in a 2JZ. Its rare around these parts, and I have a few Poopra friends. Started doing lots of the research, but life happened so the car went away for damn near 3 years. I recently got a wild hair up my ass, and decided its time to do something with the car again. (selling would be stupid, I would lose huge) So now I'm trying to delve back into it, and I'm noticing some things have changed. Different transmissions are being used, Tech2 isn't the only game in town, things are cheaper... This time I'm trying to set realistic, attainable goals. I just want to get the car started, and running. Stock twins are fine. (my Supra friend tells me USDM twins are easily had for $200-$300) I already have quite a bit that can be used, SR20 Koyo/fans/controller, Tial BOV, exhaust, FMIC, fuel/FPR, guages, etc. I would love to know I can at least get the car running on stock twins for $6500-$7000 before I pull the trigger. But it seems the r154 has gotten outta hand $$$ wise. After some research I'm leaning towards the 350z CD009 tranny. I daily drove a 350z for a couple years, and loved the transmission. Right now I'm looking into how much a used BS manifold/single turbo would be.... For giggles if anyone wants to look. Pics of the car I've taken since I've owned it: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rnu2novzra1t8um/8CQRI8m6W5 My YouTube channel, has a bunch of vids of the car: William Boschert - YouTube lol @ my join date, and post count... |

R154s are hit or miss. I have seen guys blow them at low 500 lbs/tq and also up near 750 lbs/tq. Could also consider auto as those things have been kicking some serious ass on the Drag Forums even with very minor mods

This is a reply to en email I sent him yesterday. Some decent info...
Hey William, Yes, I make the 2JZGTE to 350Z adapter plate, along with the complete engine to transmission kit! the only thing you would need would be the motor mounts since I make the Transmission mount for this already. So a stage 3 kit that can handle up to 475ftlbs of torque at the flywheel, would be $1250+shipping This Kit includes the following parts to get everything to work together: The 2JZ/1JZ Engine to 350Z/370Z Transmission adapter plate, Light weight Aluminum Flywheel MADE TO FIT THIS SWAP Six Puck sprung hub clutch disc FOR THIS SWAP Stage Three pressure plate MADE TO FIT THIS SWAP Pilot bearing adapter The bolts to fasten the adapter plate to the engine only(no starter bolts).(you supply the bolts to bolt the transmission to the adapter plate). Transmission mount for S14 This adaption Kit Does not include: The proper Flywheel bolts Toyota part number: 90910-02115 you need a quantity of 8 Clutch release bearing adapter(required, you must tell me which revision transmission you have so I can get you the right parts) for the external slave cylinder(CD001-CD009), it is an extra $105....For the internal Slave cylinder (CD009-JK40C) it is an extra $225(billet aluminum) you will also need The bolts to fasten the transmission to the adapter plate(required).. the lengths will differ which is why it is up to you to supply them. The stage 4 kit is the exact same, except it can handle 670 ftlbs of torque at the flywheel and is $1790+shipping. Let me know if you have any questions Thanks, Brett -- Brett Collins Jr. Mechanical Engineer Mechanical Engineering Student SWAP1UZ.com PH. 803-SWAP-1UZ |

found another option...might not completely work but someone out there has got to give it some sort of try...its the AR5 from a solstice the look of it, and lightly reading about the subject, its apparently a beefed up r154...anyone know more about this tranny?

Does anyone have a an r154 and extended shifter sitting out? So they can measure from the bell housing mating surface to the center of where the shifter sticks out? Or has this been posted somewhere else and I missed it?
On this 350z setup its 34.5". I'd like to know where this thing is going to end up length wise. |

If you can show me an r154 *today* for $400-$600, I'll buy it. I can't find one anywhere for anything near that price, other than looking for old mk3's in a junkyard. |

The cheapest I've ever seen an R154 was $650 and it needed a rebuild. I got mine for around $1,000 a year ago.

I have a friend with a motor and r154 mounted, he measured for me about an hour ago. Said 28.5" from the bell to the center of the hole, and his shifter was sitting at 29". That's using the Tech2 mount kit. What the heck? How is this even doable? I get that this kit is intended for an SC300, but I swear I've seen someone somewhere with the Z tranny in a 240. Here is a quick photo I took a few minutes ago... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50315473/CAM00124.jpg I asked Xcessive Manufacturing about it, this was the reply: Quote:
