There are other engine options available, and I think you give people (especially Cadillac buyers) too much credit for knowing about mechanical issues and their actual prevalence in the real world.

Either way, I'm off to go shopping for a new Lincoln LS!

(that's a joke, based on another platform sharing between the mustang and another sedan that didn't exactly set the world on fire.)

with Ford, there are some good deals going around with the focus rs, st, & fiesta st. its a good time to capitalize off tragedy.

https://jalopnik.com/you-can-get-an-...-no-1825650235

if my insurance wasn't already so high, I would be tempted to lease a fist for under $200/month.

True, but the S197 was far less shitty than any of its predecessors, and the suspension was completely different on the LS (far better, SLA all around). I did get the timeline mixed up though, the LS was first and the mustang was a heavy rework of that chassis, so it's fairly different than what's being discussed. The point remains, Ford can barely sell the models they have, they're not going to be breaking into a new niche at this point, one that has been shown to have limited viability (Chevy SS).

http://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla...vw-others/amp/

This is the best article I’ve read about Tesla’s biggest problem. The Model 3 production issues, quality issues and capitol concerns are nothing compared to the competition that’s about the roll out. I’ve been preaching this to people for a good 9 months. Like the article said, those other things can be ironed out, but there’s nothing they can do about Jaguar, MB, BMW, and Volvo making BETTER BEVs than them. Enthusiasts will still buy Tesla’s but those enthusiasts are a niche (akin to the number of people who want a manual transmission) compared to the countless consumers that was a BEV from an established luxury brand.

When I’m bought my Volvo I saw the new iPace at the dealer and the thing looks amazing. It makes the Model X look genuinely grotesque in comparison.

I think what all this boils down to is that the modern automotive market is so hard pressed and confused as to how to appeal to the Millennial generation as well as the next. These 2 generations have very little interest in purchasing cars for the most part. Socialism and the idea that everything should be free is playing a very big role in their thinking. Gen Y and Gen Z are both coming up in a world where they have a very difficult time adapting to the idea that they have to start at the bottom and work their way up in terms of career and payroll. Regardless how many electronic gizmos car manufacturers cram into their cars, no matter how easy they are to drive, no matter how "green" they make their vehicles and no matter how "millennial" appealing they make the cars... the younger generations will not purchase them in the ways Xenials (1975-1985 generation), Gen X, Baby Boomers etc did in the past. There was a giant fissure between Xenials and Millennials called social media and cell phones... the bulk of the younger generations will never see what we saw in cars, ownership, investment, career building etc simply because of the birth of modern socialism in younger groups. So again, car manufacturers are struggling to sell cars anymore simply because they cant. Theyve spent so much time flooding the market with bland, boring, ugly and all an around wash of cars that no one cares about! Outside of a few minor examples (GT86, Focus/Fiesta ST/RS, Mustang EcoBoost/V8 for example), the bulk of what people are being "sold" now is just a utility and those utilities have lost their viability in the eyes of not only millennials, but the bulk of older car buyers. Cars have become so technology laden that its basically like buying a cell phone. Car manufacturers are really no longer building brand loyalty in terms of identification, customer satisfaction and brand recognition. Every damn car (outside of maybe Lexus and Audi) looks like a carbon copy of another brand. I think pretty much not a lot of people out there CARE about what brand they buy now because they ALL have the same crap! Just like buying a cell phone!

We are well into the "throw away" mindset that has been growing since the 90s. We no longer are taught to care for our "devices" be it cars, TVs, cell phones, computers... and why should we? Nothing is made to last anymore. The same rule goes for cars, which is evident in that 5 years (or less) time, the majority of people dump their car because "its old and worn out at 80k-100k miles and its going to blow up" and buy a brand new car... Doesnt matter what brand because, again, they are ALL the same!!!

So yeah, its no wonder Nissan is in the shitter. Its no wonder Ford is deleting its entire CAR line up outside of the Mustang and Focus (aka Focus Outback). Its no wonder people dont want "sedans" anymore in the sea of boring. The automotive world WE grew up in, which produced really neat cars in the 90s, where a lot of NEW things were being tried, where digital and analogue technology worked happily together and where the Japanese really stood out as something special is LONG gone. It seems a lot of us Xennials (and the minority of Millennials who have an appreciation for 90s cars, but this just seems to stem from the fact theyre cheap) are living in a cloud of nostalgia that we all hope to see again... but instead were seeing the decline of the traditional "car", the forced acceptance of hybrid/electric powered technologies, the automatic transmission completely killing off the manual transmission and the over all silver lining of cars turning to rust and growing holes.

I dont mean to sound like such a downer, but I think those of us who are reaching our 40s are being presented with a harsh socialist laden reality... The automotive market of today and the future will NEVER resemble what it has for the past 100 years.

^^ Agreed 1,000%.

It does seem like every car after 2006 just dwindled into mediocrity. A funny related metaphor is like seeing the same person on Snapchat taking the same damn picture but with different goddamn puppy ears or whatever the hell is 'current' on the app. Immediate, short-term satisfaction.

Auto wipers, auto headlights, lane departure warning, cross-traffic sensors: this bundled into all these cars now just allows for shitty drivers to also get by. This 'new population' of drivers doesn't give a FLYING SHIT about how iconic its design is, how many man-hours were put into it, how robustly engineered a powertrain/drivetrain/suspension is built. More or less, they want whatever gets them from A to B safely/quietly/comfortably/boringly. With that said, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here, this is one of the many reasons why 'purist' sports cars are becoming a dying breed.

Yeah both of my cars have all of the tech, the Volvo pretty much has every piece of technology currently available including level 2 autonomy. Trust me I miss my stick. The XC40’s shifter location is PERFECT for a manual transmission. But alas nothing is as great as it used to be. The paddle shifters just aren’t as cool (although the quality and feel of them is astounding). It’s still a CUV.

I love and hate that these are my current autos. But whatchya gonna do?? I’m just being patient. I can basically afford to buy a car up to $150k right now (not something I thought I’d ever be able to say) but I want to wait til the kids get a little older so I can enjoy it and get it to the track. My life is insane at the moment and if I got a car like that it would be like buying a fishing boat. I’d barely get to enjoy it.

Hopefully by the time I can pull the trigger on a fun car there will be fun cars to buy.

Straight up, if Nissan came out with the IDX right now, I’d buy the first one they could get me. No fucking hesitation.

Bonus Loser: NissanSo far, we've looked solely at individual models within a brand. But for Nissan, we're making an exception. You see, the only model from Nissan that posted a sales gain at all in April 2018 was the all-electric Leaf. That model's thousand-unit boost doesn't come close to covering the 16 percent drop of the Sentra, 28 percent slide of the Versa, 48 percent decline of the Altima, or 62 percent plummet of the Maxima. And it's not just sedans that fell last month at Nissan. The Rogue, Nissan's best-selling nameplate, was down 15 percent, and its trucks, the Frontier and Titan, were down 20 and 34 percent, respectively.
Wow. Nissan is getting hosed. Not to surprised though. Their line up is rental car boring. Makes you wonder could this have something to do with Carlos leaving.

Nope, on the contrary, all the current cars were developed under his watch. Letting the brand slip into ambiguity happened under his watch too. Having cars receiving updates far less than the rest of the industry is a result of his oversight.

The GTR and the 370z look almost the exact same since they first debuted. While the R35 has recent bumps here and there. The Z34 is a dinosaur. No wonder he got out before ish hit the fan.

I know a lot of millennials and I don't really see them as entitled or wanting stuff for free. I train them all day long. They want to earn their pay. Car companies can't get these kids to buy cars because they're broke AF, man. Cost of living keeps climbing, but wages haven't moved since before these kids were born. All they can afford is decade+ old, beat to shit cars. The problem transcends the car industry. They can't afford college, can't really afford to buy houses, can't really afford to raise kids. None of this stuff is changing anytime soon, but this generation's mentality isn't really where I'd lay the blame.

i wasnt crapping on millennials. i was pointing out factual information based on sociological studies of the their age group along with the group below them ive spent time researching so when i do talk about said age groups, i can do so from an educated stand point and not a shallow opinionated one simply rambling off quotes said over and over again via social media. i honestly dont try to insult entire generations/groups of people seeing as pointing fingers as well as playing the blame game via generalization isnt good to do. my entire point is that car manufacturers are trying to appeal to the younger generations who have spent most of their lives existing in a world that is very difficult to cater too as well as adopting very socialist based ideals into their lives due to their economical outlooks and situations. none of what i wrote was meant as cynical or insulting toward the age groups i was referencing.

if my insurance wasn't already so high, I would be tempted to lease a fist for under $200/month.
Tell me about it . They just dropped a limited time private cash pffer of 2k on top of current rebates. Since I ordered my FiST and the build date is the end of the month I am now getting a Orange Spice( option paint) Smoke storm Recaros, blakc wheels version for 19,600. Thats $2500 off invoice and $5,500 be,oew sticker for the car. Those of you tninking about a Ecoboost Stang? You could pick ome up now for around 22k-23k with these deals.

Raptor, Focus RS, GT350/350R and Lincoln Navigator do not qualify FYI

I haven’t had a chance to read this article yet but I read an article that referenced this article (in Automobile mag) and it’s about how cell phones have changed things, including how you get people fee about cars.

Nice buy!

From the that article it seems like dealers are also offering incentives for the Focus RS. That being said, I think similar incentives are harder to find in Southern CA, or ive not seen any RS selling for 35k.

With the 350gt, would not be surprised if there are still adm’s. One could prob find a discounted new zl-1, or grand sport corvette for cheaper.
