In other news two of my 7970 mining cards are dead and the third might be. Had a power surge that finally took them out, I think. They've already more than paid themselves off. I hate to say it but I only gamed on the one set for all of 4 hours total. |

How long did you have them for? I'd love to snap up a cheap 280x or 290x, but I've heard that mining is tough on cards. You may have only gamed 4 hours, but I know it would become my main machine for gaming.

Mining's pretty terrible on cards, even if you have stock clocks / undervolt / keep temps down. Running them 24/7 at 100% load is different than running them under 100% for a couple hours every day (i.e. gaming). Shortens the lifespan considerably. I did. It wasn't enough apparently. The house's wiring is sketchier than most people's s-chassis. When you turn on the bathroom light the tv in the living room flickers. Etc. |

Need a AVR not just a conditioner. Just some capacitors can't keep that draw up. Need a battery to hold you through the dips.
I think the price dump is going to happen when the next great mining card comes out.

Expect cheap cards soon. Mining is about 1/5th-1/10th as profitable as it was. Also scrypt ASICs exist now (gridseed) which are borderline more cost appropriate than a GPU. They might be already, I haven't checked their prices lately.
I'll look into better power setups. |

Those temps are great considering what a beast this card is. It would be a hell of a build in terms of price and performance. I'm curious to see how the non ref cards will be.

I might sell my 7970s for a 970. I need something better for development. A single 7970 is struggling with Unreal Engine 4 and the Oculus Rift.

kind of too late with its lower pricing too... 3xx is nearing with its rumored lower power consumption and HBM , its a must have for me. |

You see the newest article on the 3xx?
http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd...s-surface.html With the 970/980 AMD has to bring this in at a low price point. I am hoping they undercut the 980.

i went with i5 4690k . got it overclocked at 4.7ghz now. Itching to get an Ek waterblock for my gtx 970, but don't know if its worth it to watercool. I watercooled my old video cards in the past for more overclocking but the 970 already is a beast.

anyone tried the omega driver vrs? my next up res is 5200x3200 (from 3240x1920) and just kills my system. what happened to 4k? lol.
i'll add a custom 4k resolution specs on CRU later. I just thought of that now. tried in on both redux metros, everything on very high/no AA. walking around is okay shutters a bit but, when action hits. it's too laggy for me. can't tell the difference. for nba2k15, everything on very high except the crowd (I think). when im playing on the court, its fine. but, when the cut screen shows up super lag mode. details looks a lot smoother. that's all the games I've tried it . some bench http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ormance/5.html |

Not yet. I've seen so many issues with these drivers. I'm holding off until AMD fixes it.

That is pretty legit. I'm excited to see what this technology can produce. Not mention the 390X is on the horizon. I feel like this could be AMD's year.

Nvidia having a 75% GPU market share inching closer and closer to the same parallel AMD faces w/ Intel in the CPU market. dont get me wrong I heart AMD cards, its all I ever have used. I am not sure my next gen will be AMD though, it is hard to argue w the watt/performance of what Maxwell is doing

I wished amd could had gone for the kill when nvdia was exposed with its memorygate. lol that, I also want to build a new rig.
more freesync monitor will be available and will be more affordable. pretty much stifle nvdia g-sync plans to help drive prices of monitors to titan levels. hah. |

AMD did go for the kill when nvidia had its issues w/ the gtx970, there were all kinds of advertisements and promos pushed out using that issue to try to pull people over to team red. but its a drop in the bucket, amd is farrrrrrrr away from having any kind of majority market share. and your analysis of the monitor market based off freesynch/gsync is far from correct. neither of those techs will ever drive up the market price of monitors, there are too many korean IPS monitors that can OC for cheap saturating the marketplace combined w the major monitor companies creating all kinds of competition.

who cares about krm 1440 ips. imagine if freesync wasn't there to cock block g-sync. they would have tried to standardized on monitors. every top end monitor will have g-sync and pay moar. |
