I dunno man I havent been welding for too long, but I used gas when I did my engine bay and all the brackets etc for my VH swap. But I turned back in my rental and didnt feel like dropping alot of coin on renting another and the welder came with a spool so I figured I'd try. It just seems to me to really just go alot easier. Granted I was only doing exhaust so it was pretty low on the hard to weld list. It just weld6ed the 16ga stuff real quick and with damn decent beads....Of course my skillz may have risen since the welder was bought...

with my lincoln, whatever you set the controls on the machine to, that is the MAX that the pedal will let you do. on the everlast you have the option of either pedal OR machine. meaning the pedal would max out the machine if you floored it. burnt everything up. 3 hours into welding, the HF shorted out and the welder exploded.. Packed it back up and sent it back.. |

^ yeah 100% pedal control made me not want to even bother. I live my millers at the shop and would never doubt the quality but I'm going to buy an invertig for the new shop. Seems like a great unit that will handle 90% of what I do with lots of extras.

ER70S-6 This will be best for welding on cars and such that may have some surface contaminants. You could use ER70S-3, but I think the 6 is a better fit.
For most auto applications I use .030, but again you can use .023. I have never had good luck with feeding .023, but my torch is a 15' Tweeko & it does not like that long push. Hope this helped |

EDIT: picked up some .025 Lincoln wire today from LWS since I was there for gas. Also realized I made a typo and looks like I said I'm very skilled..HA! I have zero skills. I totally suck at welding.. Can anyone give me advice on first stitch weldimg the bay (shock towers and such) and also the tubs..thin sheet metal to more crappy thin stuff. I really don't even know, gun angle/feed speed/other input? I don't have many settings for the machine few voltage choices and feed speed. Any info is great!

solid concept
Thats a very SOLID concept! but i think there might be too many point of failure...but i guess if this is just a mockup...you could cnc those plates and make a stronger piece/brace where it connects to the stock ebrake lever

Yeah im sure it can be refined a bit to look professional and what not but as it sits the rig is pretty dam solid. All the brackets i made out of 1/8" 6061. I TIG'd the MC bracket, and its pretty strong. I put a grade 8 sleeve in the pivot arm so it wont wear as fast. but you are right i am kinda concerned about the point where it attaches to the stock brake lever. I just welded a bolt on to it so we'll see how long it holds up.

I've been working on the same setup a little different but basically the same have it all mocked up on paper just need to order parts. Want to use dual calipers on a street car figured this was the best solution.

Before I start trying to make my own caliper bracket, can anyone tell me if they've seen adapter brackets to put Wilwoods on the back of an S chassis? I'm NOT looking to run dual calipers, just want to replace the oem calpier all together and upgrade.
