So Powell was not being truthful to the world when he explained why Obama would be the better politician for the job? I happen to have alot of respect for Powell. And i think he had a better chance of becoming president than both Obama and Mccain put together. But he did not want it.
Of course Obama is pulling people out of the woodwork to vote for him just because he is HALF black. That's a no brainer right there. But so what? Those people never had a reason to actually vote until now as far as they are concerned. But they are americans, and they have that right.
That's the thing that never ever ceases to amaze me about the GOP. Their complete lack of intuition. And that they never saw this coming. Never even considered it..... probably even scoffed at the notion of a black man in the white house.

"Oh and for legendary and your comments on taxes. Taxes are needed but excess taxes squash economic growth. When you overtax a population it limits economic growth because they cannot spend money on goods.

Which in turn slows down manufacturing because there are less goods being purchased. Which in turn leads to less jobs because of a slow down in manufacturing. Everyone loses!
Sorry but excess taxes are just a big fail. The government needs to learn to balance the budget stop earmarks and pork barrel spending.

Oh and socialism does not correct the situation we are in just makes matters worse." - Drift Freaq

Define excess. america's tax burden is a joke didn't you know that? BRIC countries and developed european countries can laugh at our "high taxes." did you even look up any .gov sites about the information about american redistrubution? My friend's country, France, paid over 50% in income taxes and other taxes that include social welfare, social healthcare, and social retirement before he became a student in the U.S. Also, he would have to pay a 19.6% VAT on almost anything he would buy in France. It may be backwards as hell, but from what my friend tells me he doesn't care. Why? When it comes down to it he'd rather be covered.

Many other countries such as BRIC are still developing a balance between socialist policies and free market. I'm not trying to say that Europe is better than America and we DEFINITELY don't have to worry about being accused of socialism because America is still far away from it. I'm just saying the american complaints about ridiculous high taxes are a joke, especially if people do not know where they are being redistrubuted and that is my main point. It's very hard to satisfy society's desire for economic wealth (undefined) and social security (safety of our well being and others).

On another point, I feel like i'm still uneducated enough to vote even if my vote is so minute. I think Obama will win just because of McCain's recent behavior that caused famous conservatists to side with Obama. Don't believe me? Ask your local political science professor, youtube, and search simple terms "republicans; obama" on google.

Here are some links about free market and socialism and international tax rates.

I believe that first link has poor citations but it's good enough for this.

Here's how we are stimulating OUR economy. Someone emailed this to me.

Marc Faber comment on US economy :

Investment analyst and entrepreneur Dr. Marc Faber concluded his monthly bulletin (June 2008) with the Following:

''The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China . If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer it will go to India . If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala . If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany/Japan. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the America economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part.'

Quoted for the truth. Taxes are a bitch but lowering taxes is not sound policy, especially in an economic environment that the US and most of the Western world is currently in the thick of. Raising taxes as being bad is actually a misconception. It would not necessarily slow down the economy. In a recession, people save their money, that means that they stuff it in their mattresses not investing it, not buying useless shit with it. Any money the government collects is going to be spent, because there is no way the government is going to pass down debt in a recession, that is just bad business. The government is going to spend the money. So, if the government spends the money on bridges or on food stamps or airports or the military or schools or unemployment insurance, this money gets spent immediately helping people to get jobs or at least spend more. The idea is to create more economic activity because only economic activity can fix a recession, and people left to their own devices typically spend less during a recession. Something to think about.

. Why does it sound like some of the people in this thread got their info from FOXNEWS.

Check your facts, they are the most fair.

The Pew (PEJ) report for the 2008 election cycle is out.

Among the findings?

FOXNEWS provided the most balanced cable coverage of the 2008 presidential election among major news outlets (CNN, MSNBC, FOXNEWS) and likely the most balanced of all six outlets (NBC, CBS, ABC included), although they oddly didnt release the latter three network's numbers. Keep in mind, while Pew bills itself as Independent, it certainly leans to the left, which is probably why they didnt release all the numbers. God forbid they stated FoxNews was the most fair of any television network, as it's doubtful any network bested the Fox numbers below since the Fox positive/negative are almost a perfect match. Interestingly, while they released the numbers for MSNBC and FOX, they didnt release individual CNN numbers, choosing to say it closely reflected the "Total Coverage" numbers below, putting it somewhere between MSNBC and FOX.

The Best (least biased) and the Worst (most biased) news coverage?

BEST (FOXNEWS)
Positive Obama Stories 25%
Positive McCain Stories 22%
Negative Obama Stories 40%
Negative McCain Stories 40%

WORST (MSDNC)
Positive Obama Stories 73%
Positive McCain Stories 10%
Negative Obama Stories 14%
Negative McCain Stories 43%

TOTAL COVERAGE (all media added together - 2,412 stories from 48 outlets)
Positive Obama Stories 36%
Positive McCain Stories 14%
Negative Obama Stories 29%
Negative McCain Stories 57%

No one ever responded to my previous question honestly.

Why are you or did you vote for Obama?

And "Don't want 4 more years of Bush" isn't valid.

I voted for Obama because I didn't agree with Mccain's proposed idea's.

Not because I didn't want 4 more years of Bush.

Obama has flaws as well(just like any human being), but again, didn't agree with Mccain's ideas.

Associated Press
November 4, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- It's a nightmare scenario for Democrats -- their nominee Barack Obama winning the popular vote while Republican John McCain ekes out an Electoral College victory. Sure, McCain trails in every recent national poll. Sure, surveys show that Obama leads in the race to reach the requisite 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

Sure, chances of Republicans retaining the White House are remote.

But some last-minute state polls show the GOP nominee closing the gap in key states -- Republican turf of Virginia, Florida and Ohio among them, and Democratic-leaning Pennsylvania, too.

If the tightening polls are correct and undecided voters in those states break McCain's way -- both big ifs -- that could make for a repeat of the 2000 heartbreaker for Democrats that gave Republicans the White House.

In 2000, Democrat Al Gore narrowly won the popular vote by 537,179 votes. But George W. Bush won the state-by-state electoral balloting that determines the presidency, 271 to 266. The outcome wasn't clear until a 36-day recount awarded Florida, then worth 25 electoral votes, to Bush by just a 537-vote margin.

Before the 2000 election, political insiders had speculated just the opposite, that perhaps Bush would win the popular vote but lose the presidency to Gore.

One day before the 2008 election, Obama sat atop every national poll.

Enthusiastic by all measures, the Illinois senator's Democratic base was expected to run up the score in liberal bastions of party strongholds such as New York and California.

But the race appeared to be naturally tightening in top battlegrounds that each candidate likely will need to help them reach the magic number in the Electoral College, electoral-rich Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia among them.

To win, McCain must hold on to most states that went to Bush in 2004, or pick up one or more that went to Democrat John Kerry four years ago to make up for any losses. McCain's biggest target for a pickup is Pennsylvania, which offers 21 votes and where several public polls show Obama's lead shrinking from double digits to single digits.

McCain faces a steep hurdle. Obama leads or is tied in a dozen or so Bush-won states, and has the advantage in most Kerry-won states.

The Republican's campaign argues that as national surveys tighten, McCain's standing in key states also rises and that, combined with get-out-the-vote efforts, will lift McCain to victory in Bush states and, perhaps, others.

"What we're in for is a slam-bang finish. ... He's been counted out before and won these kinds of states, and we're in the process of winning them right now," Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, said Sunday.

Obama's team is awash in confidence.

"We think we have a decisive edge right now" in states Bush won four years ago, said David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager.

There's still another possibility, perhaps more improbable than the first -- that McCain wins the popular vote while Obama clinches the White House.

True, Democrats have been fired up all year.

True, Republicans haven't been.

True, Obama and McCain have been faring about even among independent voters.

But there are signs that the GOP's conservative base has rallied in the final stretch and these voters usually turn out in droves, even if lukewarm on the candidate.

Then there's the question of a tie in the Electoral College. In that case, members of the next House would select the winner.

If Obama carries every state that Democrat John Kerry won in 2004, plus Iowa, New Mexico and Nevada, then he and McCain each would have 269 electoral votes. A tie also would result if McCain takes New Hampshire from the Democrats' column but loses Iowa, New Mexico and another state that Bush won, Colorado.

In an election year that's defied conventional wisdom time and again, anything can happen.

I am voting for Obama because MCCain had MANY years in his career to make a "change". It's time for someone in the W.H. who can inspire millions of young americans. MCCain is WAAAY too cozy with the current administration, and has been for years. And i will not vote for a man endorsed by both Bush and Cheney. And Palin in my opinion is not qualified to run the most powerful country in the world if MCCain all of a sudden takes a dirt nap.

Hmm, I wonder who they voted for.

In Philadelphia, reports from poll watcher Chris Hill that two Black Panthers had stationed themselves at the door to a polling station and were intimidating voters. One held a night stick, Hill said.

Well over here this morning in a predominately democratic area about 200 voters were told that they can't vote at their designated voting station after they had already waited in line, and the people operating the voting station attempted to convince them to take provisional ballots.

Red Scare in 2008, I can't believe it.

What's ironic is that Scandinavian countries such as Norway or Sweden have the highest standards of living and the happiest population in the world.
When you look at their government spending as a percentage of their GDP, they could technically be called "socialist" countries. Surprise!

So there are stupid, dangerous people acting in the name of having Obama for President. Clearly the character of these two idiots means Obama himself is unfit to lead this country.

You didn't answer my question. Here, I'll repeat it. If that's not a birth certificate for Obama, WHAT IS IT?
