I really only plan on makin 400whp, as any more than that and it’ll blow through tires too fast and possibly compromise transmission components. I’m sure someday I’ll want to turn it up. Maybe when I build the DE hah.

Finally drilled out all the welds on the seat brackets.
Removing those stupid weights on the front of an S13 subframe resulted in me cutting through my bushing mounts. Oh well, I'll be reinforcing these anyway. blocks on blocks. Prepping the rear subframe for GKTech's rear subframe reinforcement plates and a few other modifications. Then it'll be off to be stripped to bare steel.

If you've bought the "Contano" 5-lug conversion hubs, do yourself a favor and repack them with quality grease. I caught this one just in time to save it.
Shortened by Q45 output shafts so I won't have issues running Z33 axles. This was a major pain.

They are packed with this waxy green grease. The one you see that’s discolored was on my car for about 30,000 miles.

Refreshing the bores on the VG and measuring bearing clearances before I put it back together and in the car. I'm convinced a lot of the "oiling" issues these engines experience are from people running factory clearances on higher powered engines.
Pin bores needed some honing to be truly "floating".

I wonder if the weld-on steering rack clamps that Villains sells would also fit around that Z rack after removing the mounting ears from it. I think Bink has rack clamps as well.
Curious on the difference in total rack travel between the two, with and without tie rods installed since they both can make use of tie rod spacers. |

If you say so.
I dropped my rear subframe, front subframe, and homemade tension rod brace off at the local derusting place. They're going to strip them down to bare metal. Really excited to work on those and get the shell rolling again, so it can come to the shop and I can start on the cage! Current state of affairs:

Cage material showed up.
Picked up my subframes. GKtech's subframe reinforcement kit. That was a good brush up on my TIG skills. Still need work. Fancy picture of FEAL with GKtech offset strut top for no reason.

New wheels also came. Motegi MR135.

Finished reinforcing my subframe and filled it with foam since the inside is now bare metal from the acid dip.

We'll get to the actual build portion here shortly, feel like I've been posting pictures of parts forever lol.
Foam is cured. Gotta finish up my front subframe mods and then paint them. Running 17x8.5+25 in the front (probably with a spacer of some sort), and 18x9.5+15 in the rear. Really want to run a 9" wheel up front, but budget dictates I run some cheap wheels for the time being haha.

Prior to doing the repacking of grease to the contano hubs did you have any issues with the hub "working" its way out of the bearing? Ive had two fresh sets start to come apart after putting a couple miles on them, scary stuff.

Pro Tip: When cutting out the sleeve for the subframe bushings, cut on the side that is fully welded. This way a slight mishap isn’t a big deal. Progress looks good!

Haha, thanks. I've had solid bushings in this car for over a year. There was so much galvanic action I just cut them out. I'll be epoxying them back into place, so a cut in the bushing sleeve is no big deal!

I asked myself that same question, it was like the hub came off of the wheel bearing and started to work its way out. There was in and out play when I would push the hub back into the bearing, while bolted to the car! Both times the axle nuts were loosened from the play even after I had torqued them originally. I have video and pics that ill dig up later. |
