Aight...first off, im just asking Straight Oppinions
I dont want this to be a flame war...lol

Anyways...I was wondering what you guys think...as your input is somewhat valuable.
In my quest to be unique...I sadly learned a few days back from my Civic driving friend, that someone in my city (under 1million people...so...yeah) Already has performed the swap i was interested in... 240 SX, s15 Front, R33 Back, BlackTop sr20 ect. ect. ect.
Since i dont want to do it if its already been locally done (unless his car is destroyed in a wreak or something) My current idea is this:

-1995-1998 240 SX, Manual blah blah blah. (MAYBE an s13 coupe if i cant find an s14 ect.)

-BlackTop sr20det drop in, quoted from a local shop at around 4,500 canadian...ish....before instal and shipping, or 3,500 for a redtop sr20 with CPU and ECU and shit.

-2001 Skyline GTR34 FULL conversion, Including HID Headlights, Tail Light Assembly, Custom Widebody around the fenders, Door Pannels, ect.

-Nice Sexy Yellow Paint (maybe yellow, I.E. Type R yellow, the yellow S15's come in, or a yellow i saw a pic of a Nismo GTR in....kinda a faded look...looked cool)

-HKS Upgrades, Turbo, FIMC, 2.5 Inch piping, Either HKS SuperDrager Exhaust or Apex GT Spec exhaust, Standard BPU's with additional upgrades to management, Jun or Nismo internals, ect.

-Nismo Seats, Bride Carbon Kevlar seats from japan, OR Cobra (forgot the exact name of seat) Carbon Kevlar, Carbon Door Pannels and interior, blah blah blah...Custom interior...maybe White...or red?

-Taking out the Rear Seats (maybe) and making it just a 2 seater, while using the room from the backseats for custom stereo enclosure, including 2 12inch subs behind seats, 2-4 10's, better speakers in door pannels, 2 1000 wat amps, buncha sexy lighting, tweeters, ect.
And Thats all i have so far?

Hows it sound to you guys?
I know that all the above would take me like, 5 years at least...and make my new saying "Broke 4 Life"...but With Education payed for, Housing with Parents, ect...I tihnk i might be able to JUST barly pull it off.

I was thinking about getting the 240 by Christmas 2002, and keeping it in my Garage, Uninsured, (me being 15, i couldnt drive it anyway) and because im 16 in June 2003, It would give me a bit of time to save up for the Swap... What you guys think?
Please be honest?
Suggestions would be helpfull...
I know it would be more economical to plan this out when i coudl actually AFFORD it, but im just wondering here...thats all...Thanx guys.
-Xyla

Your gonna be 16 in June, 2003. That puts you at 15 in June of 2002. And your 15, huh? And its not June yet, is it?
So, your 14 then. And will have a job to accompany the $10k USD s14a, or the $7-8k s14. Then a $4500 engine, and a FULL skyline conversion. $1k+ for HIDs, $200 for tails, and $2000+ for "custom widebody kit." Then $1000 in a turbo, $500 for exhaust, $600 for GT spec, $1500 paintjob, $800 for FMIC, $600 for BPUs, $1500 for JUN internals, $700 racing seats, $700 custom interior.
Then the system.
$500 for crap 12's. $600 for four crap 10's. $1000 for 2 crap 1000 watt amps. $200 for "sexy lighting," $350+ for speakers.
So. You will estimate 5 years to pay: $28,250 US dollars. And you mentioned Canadian, and your profile says canada. So that would be: $44,411.82 Canadian.
I hope your father is the Prime Minister.
Grow up kid!

Ease off, I think its a good idea to set everything out on the table and observe. Your on the right track. You just need to get the $$$. I'd say, you get a job, work hard, get the car and pay it off, youll have a pretty good chance at making it. Good luck my man,

Yeah. He has drive.
But, he's 14. He probably doesn't even know how much money is worth, though.
In order to pay $50k, which I estimated LOW, and didn't include any labor, and used crap item prices... he'd have to make $10K a year, for the next 5 years. Or his mommy will have to buy him nice things.
I worked 30/hrs a week when I was 14-16. 35/hrs a week when I was 17, 40 hrs at 18, and now 50 hrs a week as a manager at 19. I haven't even made close to $50k. And that was working as much as possible due to child labor laws.
I made $12k from 14-16. $5k at 17, $7k at 18, and am on track to make $18k at 19. But I will be leaving this job for college.
My point is... I have only made $28k. And I took a year off before going to college to work, and save $$$ for college.
Why in gods name would anyone spend that much money on a car for so much looks? Does he have any comprehension how much that is? Does he understand that after putting nearly $50k in his car, when he sells it, he'd only get like $20k?
Money has value, and that kid need to understand this. Thats all I'm saying.
BTW: Who here made $10k between 14-19? Or $50 before 19?
-Jeff

nothing wrong with dreaming, it's what motivates us, regardless of your age. but if you are financing the car when you turn 16, you have to have insurance to get a loan. now if you are a rich bastard which it seems like you are according to your other posts, then go for it. the best thing to do is to get the car first. i spent my study hall time in school, planning out the baddest ass sound systems for various cars that i wanted. i didn't even have a car. i had two crappy cars (two years later), then found this 240SX, and decided this would be my platform for car audio. i didn't care about going fast. 3 years later i have a good enough car stereo, and all i care about is handling and speed, neither of which i remotely cared about before. so my point is, get the car, see what needs to be done, your plans may change, then follow your heart. no need to worry about which guy already took your idea, when you didn't have the car in the first place j/k

Aight...I was just wondering what you guys thought...I'd rather have a few goals in life then waste my money on drugs and other useless shit like that.
Like s13girl said...I know its not...Totally realistic, but....yeah...i know.

I been doing research...I can get a 91 S13 Coupe for 3,800 Canadian. High as hell mileage, but otherwise very nice condition...I already have a guaranteed job as of June 11th (15 on june 10th) and, yeah, its not that much, but by working maximum...I can get that kind of car by Xmas times...

Also, my friend pearson...15, Has a Civic Si Veloz, 16 in September... His parents bought it for him, and he pays them.
My parents would be willing to do the same...depending on my highschool marks.

Like i said...I know its more economical to think about this shit when i can afford it...but im just getting it all out on the table, researching it, ect. Ive been talking to people, finding out how much it would cost, for example, to Mold in the Skyline Lights ect.
lol Oni, no i havnt actually raced anyone, I just thought the riced out F&F supra was sexy...

"My Deal" is i was just wondering what you guys thought...your oppinion is important...thats all...
I would rather have a 240 and be broke for life then a Civic and be like everyone else.
And its not illegal to have an Uninsured car sitting in your garage that you never drive, So getting the car by Xmas 2002 would mean i could have it payed off (depending on year) by Spring, and would leave me time to save cash and get it insured when i can afford an sr20 swap.
On my parents plan as an occasional driver....Insurance on an older 240 Wouldn't be that much...
My friends brother pays 100 a month on a 1999 Civic SiR, with Intake, Exhaust, 4-2-1 Headers, Lowering, ect.

Thats what i didnt want tho...People like Jeff, Oni, Matic 240sx, flamming me for my ideas...thats all.

Im just making plans...

of course it's not illegal to have a car sit in a garage with no insurance. i was saying if you finance it, the bank won't give you a loan unless you have insurance already.

Well here is my Gay Opinion (meaning you may disregard it)

You sound like a little kid who wishes to have everything. First of all the fact that you wanted an intake with you turbo in one of the posts.... then the yellow paint <- nice way to attract cops..... R34 convo? Just get an R34. It'll be more expensive but at least it will be what you want it to be. I'm 18, worked for the past 2 years part time and would be grateful if i can pull off a stage I turbo kit.... that of course is different if you wonna drop out of school.... Then you'll be making $30K/year at best for the rest of your life.

Conclusion.... I think it's kinda dumb to wish all that at 14.... Just a bit too much. Get yourself something simple and finish school. then do whatever you want....

Side Note..... i'm getting addicted to my car. I don't know how others feel, but lately all that occupies my mind is my 240... the point i'm bringing this up is that if that happens to many, good chances you'll start failing school just warning youm cuz that's what i'm doing (well university in my case).... i'm actually in process of solving this 'life crisis'.... anyone got any good ideas.... other than selling the car?

Whats wrong with dreaming? If thats what he wants to do with his car, let him be. Aim high, you will get more that way. If you discourage him into thinking that this is stupid and he wont get this, how are you helping him? If a hurt man is walking to town, and says he hopes to get there, will you scold him for being so foolish as to go hurt? Try and help him with advice, not deprive him of his thoughts, and dreams with disaprovement.

I think its great to have plans. I already have a good idea of what I want for suspension(~$3500), brakes(~$1500), power(~$5,000++), looks(~$0), and misc..(~$1000). I could have NEVER come up with those things with out driving my car a lot.

Have you even driven a 240 before? Do you even know how to drive? So do you think the 240's massive torque is an advantage or disadvantage since it has lower revs? You really can't have an answer for that question since you don't own a 240 and you just wouldn't know. You have to be able to answer that question before you decide what engine you want. Have you ever sat in nismo seats? They may suck compared to sparco seats even though the nismo may look cooler. Again, its nice to have plans but have PLANS or at least goals not dreams.

"If a hurt man is walking to town, and says he hopes to get there, will you scold him for being so foolish as to go hurt?"
We are talkin about a man with no legs, about to run a marathon...

Don't listen to what anyone has to say here...they obviously have nothing to work for except money. Money is not an end like everyone is telling you. Your happiness is an end, and thats what you need to go after. Yea I was stupid, I now have a car I can barely pay for, but you know what? I love it and I wouldn't change what i did, ever. If you are happy with what you buy and what seat you are fucking sitting in, then who can tell you whats good and whats not...How do you guys know that this kid won't like the Nismo seats? Oh wait...it may be the stick up some of your asses...
i think you get my drift...

He isnt turning his car into something its not. Its a Nissan, hes just changing the way it looks. What does it matter to you anyway? If i were to paint shoes with the 45,000 dollar colour changing paint, what will it matter to you? Let him do what he wants. And anyway, a skyline would still cost within about 60 to 70 thousand dollars more.

Hey, all i gotta say is this " I wish i Had that kind of Motivation when i was 14" hell i was out Blowing my Money on Weed and crap like that, ( yeah i had a job at 14, under the table Type thing, made 400 a Month so i didnt care )
But There making some Very Good Points, Be a little more realistic, what your talking about doing would be Very Expensive, Im 21 and i dont think ive made 50k as of Yet in my life time, im currently Building a 1990 240SX, and so far my budget will put me at having my KA Turbo Kit at the end of this summer, thats 7k for the Kit i want ( NSport Stage 3 )
after that its on to the Suspension and the Brakes, then Int. and Exterior, and my Dad is Helping me pay for some of it, but i still Plan on having it Complete somewhere in the area of Dec2003. and thats with me puting ALL of my Extra cash into a Fund for it, im a part time Worker and full time College Student, my point is, Start More Realisticly(SP) its okay to have dreams and Wants, but dont set yourself up for something you may regret, thats a lot of money to spend on a First car, and on top of that, your insurance would be Hella ugly on a Custom Ride like that, Expecially Because of your age and shit,
i had aspirations like you do for my first car to, i wanted the Fastest Camaro in my School, my parents Bought me a 89 Iroc Z, It was sweet, i Dumped LOADS of Cash into it ( i think my total Investment in it was around 3k Just for the Engine , 350, custom Pistons, Crank, cams Larger Fuel injectors, Heads, Headers, it was Fast, but the INS. and Gas on the car were Horrible, ) so yeah to make a Long story short, i had the fastest camaro in my High school, but sold it a year after i turned 18 Because it was To Damned Expensive to keep and lost about 2k outa the Deal, Bought me a Stock 95 Beretta and was happy, Cheap Ins, and Cheap Gas,
i dunno, this is long, im doped up on Loratabs Due to Wisdom Teeth Removal, so yeah, im Rambling, Just keep it real, make a Plan, and dont go overboard, you have a long time to build a Hella Tight Car.

Hey guys.... opinions only.... i figure if i save up enough I can buy a VRH39 and swap it into my S14.....

In my opinion:
A: A full skyline conversion on an S-chassis would be lame, rice, ugly, stupid, dumb, etc etc etc.... mostly due to the fact that you can get an R32 for about the same price.

B: A full skyline conversion would include an RB engine.... otherwise you'd have yourself a nice little underpowered wannabe skyline. You might as well get a Prelude and convert it into a skyline. It's about the same thing.

C: Is this your daily driver?? Daily drivers get dents, have wear on the engine, etc etc etc. Mad props if you're willing to sacrifice a $20k body job to the hazards of road debris, shopping carts, little kids, etc. More props for waiting months for your replacement parts.

D: I'd rather have a life and a good looking, well performing 240 than no life and a really expensive tacky POS that pretty much every enthusiast will call more than riced out.

Anyways, this is just my opinion. If you wanna go for it, go ahead, and I'll be right here to laugh at another wannabe skyline with no juice.

Well, my dream is to own a GTR. I don't care what model it is as long its a GTR. The only difference between my dream and your dream is that mine is a little closer to reality than yours is. I'm hoping that as you are raising money for your dream car in the years to come, that you realize that the car you are trying to build is not going to be worth the hard work you'll be going to, and you'll change your dream car to something a little more on this side of reality. Think about it, by the time you build this dream car of yours, the sr20 is probably going to be obsolete and they'll probably have a g36, r36 or whatever GTR out and just to let you know from what I've seen so far in Japan, GTR's don't end up in the junkyard like other cars and its going to cost more to find just a front end.
