According to the LA Times, Elder raised $13,950,103 and Newsom raised $10,555,589.
Pro-recall committees raised $11,441,676 and anti-recall committees raised $72,794,672. I was mistaken; I confused the amounts raised in support of Newsom with the support for anti-recall. If you're trying to make a point, it's better to just come out with it. |

And what does this have to do with the recall the gop pushed?? You claimed it was the will of the people. That is false on all accounts and we wouldn't even be having this discussion if the gop didn;t push such a baseless claim of the will of the people.....
So, the question remains; why did the gop waste tax dollars on such a "witch" hunt knowing full well a very minute group of people wanted it and why are you not up in arms about it?? You seem to really key in on campaign spending ($$$$) aspect, but yet, seem to turn a blind eye to waste tax payer dollars.... Not sure why you keep deflecting.... |

I wish I was as obtuse as my state's political leaders.
One plant. 9% of the state's power. I don't know who these fucking idiots are who hate nuclear power, but holy hell they're just an emotional group of imbeciles. PG&E is plagued with problems. This seems like a great time for the state to put up or shut up and take over the administration of the plant from a destitute power company- if anything happened, what can you take from a company with nothing? Can high-speed rail power 9% of the state? No. Then what the everloving hell are we doing spending money on it when we could be maintaining a SINGLE POWERPLANT? The whole thing stinks of big green money railroading existing power plants. Like, do the politicians know how fucking horrible hydropower is for ecosystems? Not to mention the fact that a lot of hydropower was built not out of necessity but out of interdepartmental dick-swinging between the Bureau of Reclamation and the Corps of Engineers. |

The only argument against that makes any sense is distrust in PG&E, though I can't say I'd have any more faith in it being in the hands of our government...
Decommissioning the nuclear titties seems extremely short sighted. We don't know wtf the weather is going to be doing tomorrow, let alone in 5-10 years and renewables rely so much on the weather it's a bit of a crapshoot. Also renewables mean more batteries and such a large footprint that it seems like it would negate any environmental impact that a nuclear plant has.

Aren't traditional gas powered blowers 2 strokes?? Those things burn oil like a rotary and are dirty as fuck
Recent 4 strokes have been introduced, but lots of 2 strokes are still in use. See: why the rotary was always bound to fail; it burns oil as part of the combustion process. That's a big no no |

I love the idea of some clean up crews carrying around 200 lithium batteries in their truck to make it through a day of work. Then, every month they just pitch a dozen or so battery packs into the dumpster as they won't hold a charge anymore. Also chucking your battery tools every 3-4 months for new ones, another great way to conserve the environment. Gas tools have a near infinite service life thanks to repairability. Cordless quckly burnout in an commercial environment and can't be repaired. At least we'll help give jobs to those child miners in Africa digging up cobalt deposits to make all these battery packs. Yes, that's literally how you get Cobalt. Just like picking cotton. |

Not sure how you function with so much hate. You must live 80 feet under in some random bunker in the desert with MREs with 1 million guns or some shit |

Are you mentally disabled and unable to understand context and tone?
Good to know that you are so politically dishonest and morally weak that you'd rather grand stand in faux indignation about a harsh criticism instead of actually being angered about the child abuse and slave labor the critism is levied too. |

Oh, and they don't have internet in that part of Africa so I guess this is goodbye. Or are you saying you're concerned about the sad story of child slavery and labor laws but you're not concerned enough and are sitting there tapping away on your electronics and wearing your clothes that were all most likely made by children for cents on the dollar in a similar fashion? Do your chargeable electronics use some sort of child-cobalt-picker-free batteries? Great take and angle. It's been used before and unless you're willing to get off your ass and go do something about it, you're no better than the people you're spewing your stupid opinions to. |

Irony: Corbic is probably posting from his china phone while working from his his china laptop, and driving his chinesium material decked out vehicle all while screaming about socialism and child labor
It's not even being intellectually dishonest at this point......... But I digress.... Its amazing how many people want to grand stand about child labor, but the min a hint of inflation takes place and they have to pay the US labor premium, they shout "FUCK YOU SOCIALISM! FUCK DEMS!!!" blah blah blah It's quite amazing to watch that actually........ |

Except you are both wrong.
By bringing up the dark side of a "go electric" agenda, I am actually doing something. This is not the first time (on Zilvia alone) I've mentioned strip mining for precious metals and its negative impacts on the environment and the people involved. I am extremely conscious about the origins of my products and brands. I even have a thread on Zilvia about "Made in America, Hell Yeah". It's actually easy to have an entire wardrobe free of Chinese made clothing. The inflation we are experiencing had nothing to do with (Anti-) China and everything to do with the current regime attempting to run a command economy. So congrats to ya'll derailing the conversation about "California banning small gas engines". |

Man there are some seriously wild motherfuckers running for office in CA these days. Mariana B Dawson's governor statement in the lil booklet thingie just says "F all politicians." Bruh, you're running for governor... And then there are like 47 white dudes ranting about Covid conspiracy theories. Never seen such absurd shit. Trump really opened the flood gates for all the kooks.

Shellenburger. Dude seems to give a shit.
There should probably be a 'The idiocracy that is Oregon' thread. Democrats continue to ruin states with their free handouts, weak drug and crime prosecution and useless virtue signaling. Free Tampons for Elementary School Boys

Shellenberger seems to be another random independent centrist hell-bent on throwing around the name "Soros" because it gets votes.
But... some aspects of some of his policies are sane. I don't know that his Cal-Psych idea is fully fleshed-out, but it has roots in sense. I don't think Californians should pay for people relocated here by fedgov. Our schools are broken. My sister-in-law is a teacher and the stories she tells... holy shit. Better vocational education is a must. Nuclear energy is a must. Diablo Canyon can last decades more and produces, in less than 900 acres, 9% of the state's energy needs. The actual reactor facility is smaller than a medium-sized city's Costco. It has less impact on its surrounding ecosystems than a less-efficient natural gas facility. California imports 30% of its power. We import 30% of our power and I have to drive by those fucking hideous wind turbines every time I take the 10 back from the Salton Sea or 29 Palms. We import 30% of our power and I have to drive by those fucking hideous solar panel arrays every time I go to or from Vegas. We don't need water storage. We have 1,500 water storage sites in California. This is a regurgitation of the same bullshit Elder was on about and it needs to stop. California's water problem can be solved, it will just take some tough love. We do need water recycling and we need to advance desalination technology before going all-in. Agriculture is less than a tenth of our state's economy; let's stop exporting our water. Still, this dude's site has four issues. That's it. Four issues that need to be addressed to save the state (and one of them is energy, water, housing). He conveniently leaves out his stance on abortion (pro-choice), his stance on gun rights (pro-regulation), his stance on minimum wage ($15/hr), his stance on universal health care (for it), and his stance on collective bargaining (for it) because he's counting on Republican support. No one mentions ethanol because it's a great way to lose funding, but California needs to end the requirement for ethanol in our gasoline. It's killing my cars (vintage Porsches hate ethanol, and we have to compromise on some tunes) and ethanol is proven to have its own emissions problems- some of which are severe. Additionally, the world used to use 51% of its crops for food and that percentage is down to 29%; should we really be pumping million-year-old aquifers dry to create what amounts to a massive subsidy for multinational farming concerns and to feed people what used to be a luxury protein? |
