Why? What purpose does it serve?

Anything can be done with the right skills and/or by a good fabricator. I have a buddy who fitted an S15 dash into his RHD 180SX. It lined up ‘close enough’ to look clean and didn’t require that much tweaking- but this was in Japan where he had access to anything else that may have been needed. Don’t see why an S15 firewall couldn’t be made to fit.

Get a Bluetag issued like the hotrods do.. Or just register out of state. Should work unless it needs to be same model (regarding a blue tag from cali)... But yeah you should look into bluetags

It's more illegal at the federal level since it's VIN swapping onto a non-NHTSA-approved chassis. People have done this or talked about doing this since the '90s, it's nothing new, but when it arouses the feds (who know damn well what S15 Silvias are) it doesn't end well.
Usually what happens is they get a tip on the company that imported the chassis, usually the owners just lose a car and the importer gets the punishment, but VIN swapping a modern 17-digit-VIN-era car is a legal red flag in itself. The hot rod crowd can get away with it because it's not like a '32 Ford coupe had serial numbers stamped on every panel to begin with, and even if you could prove a chain of ownership of one car since 1932 you could theoretically swap every piece like the ship of theseus 10 times over since then. |
