s13 KA24DE Intake Manifold and Gasket.

So I took off the intake Manifold to replace the cracked gaskets that it had and I'm in the process of putting it back together again. I just have a couple of questions.
  • Do I just put the gasket on without any sealant or do I have to use like the RTV Sealant with the gasket for the Intake manifold?
  • In this whole process as it's the first major thing I've ever done to my car I did not keep track of what bolts go in each hole. Does anyone have a clue as to what size bolts go where on the intake manifld/ both upper and lower?

No sealant is needed just the paper gaskets you used to replace. Make sure to scrape off all the old gasket material so you have a nice flush mounting surface on either side.

As for the bolts/nuts. Should just go back where they came from... They're be two studs coming out of the head for the upper intake on either side. Then they used longer bolts either side of center on the top, all others holding the upper intake on will be the same size.

As for the lower, I believe it's two studs with nuts and washers the other 3? are shorter bolts.

Hopefully this helps. You should look into getting the factory service manual on pdf, it's a free download.

How long did it take you to pull off the intake manifold? On a difficulty rating of 1-10, what would you rate the job? I have a coolant drip that runs thru it, so ill fix that, replace the gaskets, and spray the Intake Mani.

I used some Indian Head shellac around the water jacket part of the intake gasket when I redid mine. Worked great on that plain paper gasket!

removing the intake manifold is like a 4-5 out of 10, not that complicated. Good time to service the pcv hoses as they tend to split/leak.

Removing the top portion can be a pain the first time. I pulled out the 2 studs on the bottom portion that keep the upper part from sliding right out by itself.

Replace every hose on there as they get cracked and what not, replace/rewire the knock sensor while you are there too, plug/remove any emissions, consider changing the PCV valve.
Add some RTV to the gasket on the portion that seals the water port for added security against coolant getting into the engine, and that's it. Pretty basic stuff but it's a PITA without moving the upper part to do.

IIRC there's 8 or 10 that go into the head. Length varries. M8x1.25 IIRC.
