13b renesis (msp) into s13?
Got a crazy idea tonight. So I know that people have put 13b's into 240's before, but I've never seen the newer engines put in. Usually the 90's models.. Has anyone ever dropped in the renesis motor? If so can someone help me find like a write up for the swap? (Don't tell me "don't do it, waste of time, etc".. I'm just wondering out of curiosity. It seems like a cool swap.) thanks.

Ok, let's try it another way.
If you have already bought it, you can now sell it again and cut your losses before they aggravates. Or just bin the whole lot before spending time and 10K on labor and custom parts, only to end up with a fuel & oil hungry unreliable engine and trans that has even less torque than a honda. |

Im with these guys. I love rotary motors, but the renesis is the worst thing I have ever had to deal with. Get rid of it as quick as you possibly can. People with rx8s will pay some decent money for a motor set in good shape since theirs is most likely blown.

Only reason to ever go/stay renesis engine is if its in an rx8 and your trying to stay in a lower class of SCCa or NASA with an unmodified engine to be competitive on the scoreboards. When you engine swap the S13, that defeats the purpose, you get put in a high their modified class. If you want to go 13b, get a 13b-TT Cosmo block, put a FD auto rear iron on it, run a turbo 2 transmission with FD auto bellhousing and FD pull type clutch setup. Then you just need an EMS like megasquirt, haltech, or microtech to run it. You'll be at ~350whp stock porting and stock twins and still less invest than the stock renesis swap that only makes ~170-180 if your lucky.
The renesis really isn't worth it. You'll get mean mugged from the 240 community for putting a rotary in the 240 and mean mugged from the rotary community for putting a crap engine in your car. |

Again, not trying to piss anyone off by my stubbornness, but I really want to do this. And if it all blows up in my face, you can tell me "I told you so".. So please, any ideas on how I would go about bolting it in? Obviously custom motor mounts, trans xmember, and drive shaft, but is that basically it? For wiring I'd probably go megasquirt and then just find a way to connect it to the body harness.

Not trying to dissuade you, but you really can't think of this as being anywhere near a bolt-in affair and the ease-of-install will be all in the details/planning/preparation. The hurdles you don't see will likely be the most frustrating, costly and time consuming. Fully consider and acknowledge what you're getting into vs. reducing the project to the obvious and telling yourself it'll be a piece of cake. That said, anything can be done and I wish you the best if you go for it! Could be pretty rad and no doubt unique. |

if you have to ask, you wont be able to pull it off. If you still want to give it a try, you're gonna have to get your hands dirty: Strip the chassis, stick the new powerplant in, make it fit aligning the trans shifter and leveling the engine (this could mean cutting and welding parts of the chassis), mount it securely, start working out the details. That simple, and it applies for almost any swap.

Dude. Stop thinking with your dick and use your brain. This is dumb. There is no support for this, no help and no reason to do it.
S13 swaps nickel and dime you to death, then you want to add on rotary issues, then you want to try and figure out out to get the electronics from one manufacturer to another and not mention the dimensions of the above mentioned? You're an idiot. Some people here are trying to be nice about it, but stop being stubborn and be smart. Even swapping it into a FC isn't common.

Coming from the rotary world, there is a reason FC guys stick to 13B's. anyone who messes with the Renesis motor just uses the housing on the 13B endplates for the exhaust ports. there's a bigger aftermarket for the 13B and more a proven design, not to mention the cost per part between a 13B and Ren.
So yes it would be possible to swap a rotary into a s13. a) if you wanted to do that why not get an FC since they have the chassis that was build for that motor and will probably handle better because of it. b) if you want to do something different why not source out something that would be a logical upgrade. even a vg30 would be something better then a 13B as far as torque and power output c) who gave you internet access. The big issue with the Ren motor is that like the VQ is uses a CAN system that unless you completely redo the wiring harness for your megasquirt you'll be chasing weird wires and signals till it runs right, even then rotaries use a specially designed ecu and fuel map system it'll be hard for you to get that all in without hurting your motor. assuming you already have the engine and trans then good luck to you.

I've been wanting to do it mainly waiting on funds. Most likely would get a Cosmo 13b-re or s5 fc 13b-t with a T2 tranns. instead of a FD 13b-TT and tranns. (engine mounts are directly in front of the tranns would require a custom subframe to do right). It's hard to info on fitment without actually looking at parts. Thankfully there's a huge rotary specialist shop local so that will make things a lot easier.

swapping a Renesis motor into an S-Chassis is about as useless as a dick flavored lollipop. seriously, its like guys swapping b-series or k-series motors into s-chassis. the Renesis is a giant waste of time and money... if you REALLY have to swap a rotary into an s-chassis, use one from an FC/FD, at least theyre less prone to issues when setup and tuned right!

would i do a K before a ren motor, most definitely. Would i go out of my way to do a K series in a S chassis, no...... but ive seen nothing but potential out of boosted k series motors more reliable than sr's, half the price SR20vdet and with cams and minor head work not bottom end shit needed will rev to 9k all day.... but its pointless you are right dori i love my RB to much to ditch it for anything else...
