Dilemma choosing rear wing type
Sorry I am not trying to fly rather trying to stick my car to the ground on a high speed. Anyway I am trying to decide what kind of wing (high, mid or low) will look good on my car and give me the down force that I am looking for. My car is a wide body S13 couple with Charge Speed body kit. If you have a picture it will help a lot better.
Here is what the car looks like (not the actual car) |

Yes, I am Frontier SE-R. I was going to bid on the wing at the last min I decided not to bid again. I think I need a wing that seat higher because my rear fenders are huge (50mm wide) and they would swallow small wing/wing that seats flat on the trunk.

forget the wing, get something subtle and be done with it. Its not a race car is it?

Yes, it will be on a high way and I do enjoy high speed when no one is around. Yes, it is kind of my race car meaning it is faster then my daily driver/better car. Plus this will be the car that will satisfy my craving for speed and what ever else I am in a mood for doing.

a wing that is adjustable, downforce would depend on the wing and it's aspect ratio. the larger the aspect ratio the greater the efficiency.
to measure aspect ratio follow this formula. ar=span\chord (imagine a rectangle. the span would be the length of the wing and chord would be the width of the wing.) the tilt of the wing would increase the downforce as well. the ideal angle of attack(tilt of the wing) would be ideally be set by the manufacturer(unless youre' willing to do the testing yourself). too much attack and your wing will stall, too little attack then you will get lift. |

I have been well over 155mph with no wing and never had trouble "sticking" to the road.
Leave the rice for the honda boys.

i always prefer cars without wings.. cuz i think they look meaner that way..
lowered + no wing = awesome in my dictionary.. but hey its your car and you didnt ask for my opinion so sorry about that.. but this is what i wanted to say.. go with the lowest yet functional wing that you can get...

I've found that a chin spoiler, and side skirts do pretty well already for a car aerodynamically. I've hit about 150ish in my 240 too, and have not experienced any instability. The rear vented fenders that are so popular nowadays do play a part in aerodynamics as well.
Though, when I had an integra, a touring style spoiler did help THAT car stay more stable at 100+. Just buy one that has been proven to work (TopSecret) and just flip off the people who look at you weird.

vented fenders will allow underobdy air to bleed though to fill low pressure area over wheel arches.....that or louvers....i don't remember.
a nice mid wing with a diffuser to help balance out the wing should give you downforce with stability. that or get the largest wing you could find... |

I have driven both mine and my brother’s car pass 120mph and his car is a lot more stable then my car at that speed. The only difference is he has front lip and rear spoiler so it makes difference. |

Yeah, I think a 3d contoured GT Wing would look good. I'm gonna go with something like that for my S14, in fact. Gotta be CF, though, and gotta be curved, one of those straight, or worse, "bookshelf" wings, especially in aluminum, looks like crap.
But a good CF wing with a CF hood and gunmetal rims looks awesome on a white car. |

when I said rear vented fenders, I meant rear vents on front fenders. The front fenders are larger than the rear, and with the opening in the front, they get a lot of air. By venting the air through the VENTS, you get less turbulence and lift.

[QUOTE=JDM K's]But it doesn't have the lift that I need, it is flat. This is what I am talking about, a Bomex wing on my Brother's car.
The S14 K's wing is functional. It's flat on top, but curved on bottom, which makes downforce. Your car would look best wingless. S13 Silvia coupes are so sexy with those kind of body kits. |

Try adding a nice air dam, and splitter, and maybe get creative with some underbody covers, and maybe a rear underbody diffuser. This will create much more downforce than a big wing hanging off the back. The big wing on the back will just create more drag.

Seriously, though, no spoiler is better. You said you have a coupe? Maybe a drag-style lip off the trunk lid would look good. |
