Custom core supports?! (tubed fronts)
I know theres already a fabrication thread, but i wanted a thread dedicated specifically to custom front core supports.
I had to cut my core support completely out to clear my new turbo v8 swap and I'm looking for new ideas on how to rebuild it, so post up any pics you have for custom core supports on s-chassis. Preferably s14s. here is a pic as it sits:

Really wanting some more people to post in on this...I'm in the process of swapping my S13 with an LS series motor, and my front core support is all fucked up, headlights are misaligned with the hood, etc.
I just wanna cut the whole front support off and replace it with square tubing. Has anyone done this? Something like this...

Well I believe I heard in the fabrication thread that anything in front of the engine crossmember has no structural integrity...so as long as it supports and straightens out my front end I think it'd be fine?

Then why not just cut it all off? Because it does support stuff (including the tension rods), so there needs to be some strength to it. A well built tube front will weigh less than one built from square tube. Like I said, priorities. If all you want is for your headlights to line up, go for it. If you want to drop weight, stiffer front end, better safety and steering, etc. you want to use bent round bar.
I heard this in reference to the cycling industry but it applies here too... "light, strong, cheap; pick two."

there was a thread, it got shut down because of the "fab thread" and the "engine bay" thread. i think having a thread for custom front ends is a good idea, show more of the detail in the work

I'm down for this one. Working on a plan to ditch my entire rad support and not put back in an upper bar.
Is there any good way to latch a hood (other than OEM latch) that doesn't require something visible from the outside?

I did reverse hood pins. The only thing that sucks is I have to turn the wheel to pop the hood. stealthy for these CA streets. lol

Personally I think there should be a fabrication sub-forum. So we can have specific threads to find stuff instead of searching through several hundred pages of the fab thread. It gets annoying trying to find specific stuff. |

Bumping this from the dead, because I am searching for custom supports that allow the usage of the pop lights, and google is NOT helping.
