While it's been a fun ride, I've only been behind the wheel of an S13 a little over a month and now I'm looking to get into a Civic or a Corolla. Pondering trades.


I've had a blast with this car, and it sure does rip! Lots of pros, and sadly quite a few cons as well. I'll be working on the cons between now and the time somebody actually buys it.


PRO:

S13 blacktop SR20DET has less than 50k miles and perfect compression

KOYORAD radiator

CX Racing front mount intercooler

HKS mushroom air filter

Genuine HKS SSQV BOV, venting

Circuit Sports fuel pressure regulator

Z32 brakes

Power steering in tact

New brake master cylinder

Manual boost controller mounted below steering wheel... lines disconnected

Boost/water temp/voltage gauges zip tied to pillar, boost line disconnected

TEIN adjustable suspension, not sure which line but harder than my... well, you know.

JDM Kouki (1998) lights, everything smoked except brake and turn signal lights. Classssssy.

Cop magnet NISMO sticker on trunk lid

Megan racing exhaust, catless and stinky, just the way I like it

Sportmax 17" wheels -- not sure on the model, similar to XXR 006 and charcoal in color

Good tread on tires, week old alignment

150 miles on an oil change

New spark plugs

Ugly cheap, lightly stained drivers "racing" seat

10" subwoofer, very powerful amp and SONY xplod speakers all round

Needs wiring attention though, I disconnected nearly everything

BOMB back seat (black/grey stripe pattern), matching fabric on dashboard

JDM cluster, kilometers only and redlines at 7.5k (lights work, as does fuel gauge)



CONS:


Cracked coolant reservoir (may replace first, either make my own or amazon)

Needs new throwout bearing, which could cost you $15 if you have the equipment and wherewithal to fix. I'll likely replace it before I sell the car, as it's not so driveable right now.

Dash cracked like a mofo, some of the small interior trim pieces are red

Door panel fabric is a maroon velour color. Very strange.

No AC, no heater

Needs about $200 in body work, and maybe a retouch on the matte black finish

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it's going to need wiring attention. Perhaps just a new EGI pump relay for a cheap fix, but I'd have somebody look over everything and maybe even repin the ECU before I take it on a road trip somewhere.


When I bought this car, it needed a bit of work (all new brakes and cylinder to start). I've done most of it, and there's only a little bit left before this thing could be considered a reliable daily. I didn't realize how much money and (more importantly) time was going to be required for maintaining this car.

Currently running stock 7 PSI for fuel consumption, reliability and peace of mind. When I bought it, it was supposedly tuned for and set to 12 PSI. This was too fast for me -- seemed to have an infinite amount of power, and literally shat on bigger cars with 500+ HP. If you put some time and a little cash into this car, and reconnect the MBC you will have difficulty finding a faster car on your daily commute.

Just don't make the mistake I did, and please know that this is not a car for a college student, much more for a hobbyist or a mechanic.
