need headgasket

ok looking at a 240 sr'd witha blown headgasket. if i brought a head gasket could i do it on the spot? let me know how hard or easy it is to change a head gasket and wat r the steps or how to. thank you very much

Depends on how bad it is, if the head was warped it would need machining which you would have to wait a few days for.

Check out the FSM or a Haynes manual, you will need it for torque specs and etc. Defiantly a big hurdle for someone with little mechanical exp. Allot can go wrong.

Yeah not really advised to take on a H/G swap if ya dont have much experiance.

You need to study and research this process, like VQ said download the FSM and study it. (the only FSM there is for the SR is the S14's SR, Same engine just some extra things on it)

Keeping the mechanical Timing straight is the most important thing, it will help keep things from being a head ache.

If you do take on the job mark all lines and wires that you remove to help with reinstalling

Head gasket isn't the easiest thing in the world, not the hardest either. Dropping the chain would be a real pain, and you'd most likely (correct me if I'm wrong) have to have the head resurfaced (not really expensive). It won't be the early morning stroll in the park, especially with the motor in the car, but if you have some experience its not going to be the death of you either.

i took the head with in and ex mani on it, just lifted all out with it, took about an 2hrs checking over everything etc.

Done that too, but shit takes lots of practice and means you know what to expect to do so. People always forgets that one bolt behind the intake...

LOL....I forgot that one...........what I did was take the head studs out completely so the head would move forward a little to get the turbo elbow out etc.


I also have an new OEM Nissan HG and a Comectic 1.2 HG, the cometic was put on the head but the motor was never put in, pm me if interested.
