View Full Version : Dirt in intake after removing IM

I pulled off my intake manifold and in the process dislodged 20 years worth of dirt. I am now aware the IM should be thoroughly cleaned as much as possible before removal.

I can see some grains inside each of the intake ports. Some of these grains are sitting on top of the valves.

Would I be safe gently using these...

...to get the dirt out?

Try a vacuum cleaner nozzle.

Okay, thanks. If it leaves anything behind, what should I do then?

I have these long qtips that I use for things like your problem. i think they sell em at walmart or walgreens. But try the vacuum first. Or if you have an air compressor, do this one cylinder at a time, rotate motor by hand until cylinder 1 intake valves close, then use an air nozzle to blow the debris out, then rotate motor again and repeat for all cylinders. Just make sure those intake valves are closed. Somebody step in here if I'm throwing out bogus info.
