I am pretty sure it is a side mount intercooler just like the S13's in japan have. I would thihnk it would be larger since it handles more power than the S13's do, but I'm not sure.

i was gonna use the S15 side mount when i start setting up my turbo project. it seems big enough and its stealthier than a front mount.

keep in mind that the whole point of getting the stock intercooler is because it's cheap and it fits in your particular chassis. for instance, if you have an S13, and an S13 SR, get the S13 SR intercooler. don't buy an S15 intercooler just because you can (unless it's like $50). it probably won't bolt up right, and it'll just be a big hassle. if you just want a cheap stealthy intercooler, get something from a car that's available here...like a VW, or a Mustang SVO or something like that, then just get custom pipes made. But all that will still probably cost far more than just getting the SMIC which was designed for your particular SR and chassis.

FMIC's are really cheap now with piping too, and tunability is increased as well. Smic is only if you cannot get another intercooler. uiuc240 is right.
