View Full Version : Wheel advice: S13 w/wide fenders.

The fenders are 20mm front and 50 mm rear. The car came with a set of 17x10 +12 FN01R-Cs for the rear. For the front I was thinking about running a 17x9 +15. Does that sound about right? I plan on running something like a 275 out back, and a 245 up front. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks.

17x9 +15 works for stock fenders in the front. You should check out the various wheel threads to get a better idea.

Yes, but did they have stretched tires on them?

No. I'll be running 18x9 +15 with 245/40s with stock S13 fenders rolled and maybe a slight pull. Nothing extreme, no need. Like I said, check the Ultimate Wheel Buying guide and other threads for ideas.

Put the rears on the front and I think you will find they fit nicly. The get another 2 for the rear.

Well, these fenders are only about 3/4 of an inch wider than stock fenders up front, and on top of that, from what I have seen +15 seems to be the lowest offset for this wheel, so, I guess this is the best I can do. I have been looking around at other threads, and I just wanted to get some input. This is what I think I should do, but I just wanted to see if anyone had some good advice.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they make a wider FN01R-C.

I'm not too worried about looks right now. Maybe later I will buy some spacers, but as long as my clearances are all good, I think I will hold off on them. I just found out they make a 17x9 +20 in 4x114, haha. It will look even worse, but it will save me a lot of money.

I run 17x9 +12 up front on stock fenders on 215/45 Federals which run wide so closer to a 225. Stretched but not too bad. Fits perfect.

Wide fenders is a waste for FNs IMO. That setup will work but I wouldnt do it. Depending on how low you go and how hard you drive, its gonna be scrape city for you fender wells with 245s on a 9 +15 but a bfh can solve most of that. But if not, then by all means go for it.

I didn't buy the fenders, so, it's not really a matter of waste. Honestly, there is no way I could fit a 275 in the back. What does "bfh" stand for?

What size/offset would you recommend? It's just that, the car came with those wheels, so, I thought I would just go with it.

BFH = Big Fucking Hammer = Anywhere a tire rubs, beat the metal out of the way.

Exactly. 5lb sledge hammer FTMFW.

If you wanna keep those fn's then yea, you could do 275s on a 10 with over fenders and 245s on 9s if you wanted. Does your car really make that much power to warrent those sizes? But anyway, it will work if youre set on running those sizes on those wheels.

My car makes absolutely no power as it sits right now, but I will be swapping in an EFI SBF, with H/C/I. So it will be making around 300whp. The purpose of the wide tires really isn't because of the power output. I am more concerned with cornering, not acceleration. I do plan on making a ridiculous amount of power in the distant future, so, by that time I'm sure I will pick up some more impressive wheels.

this guy speaks the truth

adn Move your driver....er passenger wheel well harness out of the way, and bang in the ridges that are poinch welded flat, or you might be buying some new front tires

Then why are you swapping in an SBF?

Thanks for the advice on the BFH guys, haha.

Re-read what I typed, because you took it out of context. I didn't say I was building this car with an emphasis on handling. I said I was selecting wheels and tires, with an emphasis on handling. Since you brought it up, your argument really doesn't hold a lot of water if we were to get into it. The handling will hardly be affected, especially since I implied that the heads and intake would be aluminum.

There really isn't a whole lot more to discuss. I don't really have much of a selection in wheel sizes/offsets if I stay with the FNs. I already have a pair of 17x10 +12 5x144s for the rear (the car came with 5 lug hubs for the rear). I think the 17x9 +20 in 4x114s in the front, are the best choice for me right now.

"Auto R&Ds was a plow monster." That's all Greek to me.

Plow Monster = Car was front heavy and "plowed" through the turns thanks to the extra weight over the front wheels. Tires won't fully compensate for a bad weight ratio.

Sure, why not.
