KA-T Declaration of Specs THREAD

Hey guys, I just wanted to see who else in the world is KA-T. I'd love to know specs, Dyno results, thresholds, experiences, as well as see some pictures! This isnt meant to be a FAQ thread, but more of a "heres what im doing" thread

For instance.

1. posts specs/mods
2. post how long it has lasted
3. numbers you've made on the dyno
4. what and why it blew up (if applicable)
5. experiences, thoughts (pros, cons)
6. pics are always welcome

i will start, because it would be lame if i didn't

new setup for 2007

1. KA24DE block bored 0.040 thousandths over (just shy of 2.5 liters)
- Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons
- Cometic .060 (thicker than stock) Headgasket
- Head QZ removed = lower displacement + quicker late combustion sweep
- Effective compression = 10.1:1
- ARP head studs Studs
- Micropolished crankshaft
- complete head and valve overhaul (love starting fresh)

- Custom MurphyBHP tubular Manifold
- Cheapturbo.com garrett 50 trim turbo
- JGS precision wastegate

- JGS precision Motor mounts
- Siemens 560 cc injectors
- greddy fuel rail

- greddy emanage

- Fidanza Flywheel
- Spec stage 3 clutch

- V mount intercooler setup with blowthrough Z32 MAFS

2. This one is almost fully together, im super excited to tune it and get it out there. But ,my last setup was without an aftermarket headgasket, and blew the stock one at 12lbs.... .after 8 miles of driving,.... ouch, but i expected it. So i wasnt too mad. But this one should be good for 12 lbs (and thats beign careful since its a high compression boost motor.

3. No numbers yet, but with a full blown turbo power calculator and being very pecimistic about intercooler efficiency and a low duty cycly it said i should make 340 whp at around 5500 rpm, and 370 TQ at ...... 3500 rpm... wow

4. easy, it blew up because i got power hungry and i knew we were doing a full build for the 2007 season, so i had fun with it, no biggie

5. With my experiences are the common experiences with what everyone says.
- the KA makes awesome torque but has some reliability issues whereas the Sr is a good motor too, and it is reliable, jsut not as powerful without a boost-hike or a turbo upgrade.
- Also, the KA (for me) seemed liek the right choice as i have the minset that you should never give away displacement... sure we could argue about circuit cars etc etc, and im NOT a muscle car guy, i just saw the 2.4 as an advantage especially since the guy that im co-building with (learning new stuff everyday too, this kid can literally reassembly any nissan motor with not one ounce of help, its insane) has built several 500+ whp KA-T's (including his wifes) that have all been high compression turbo motors, and all have been blasts to see in action!!

6. look for a pics update in the next week, right now all i have are pics of the block and head, and other random finished parts, so i would love to wait until the motor is fully together to put up a pic or two for the fans, lol. also i will take a pic or two of the V-mount upon completion and maybe give them a post-up.

anyhow, what else are others doing out there, share your experiences, im deffinately interested to know who else is doing what. thanks

People posting specs, please fill out the rest...knowing your feedback, thoughts, and how durable your motor is/was is MUCH more important to me than knowing you ran a NISMO mount.

2. mine has lasted about 3 months so far, although i didnt blow my motor but just craked the manifold, so watch for that...

3. as posted before i made 253hp

4. cracked the manifold because my downpipe doesnt have any flex piping on it and the manifold design is shitty

5. I really love my setup, since it runs and pulls like it came from the factory like this...

are you serious about running 10.1:1 compression on a turbo motor?
wow, do some more research.

btw, before you start flaming,

OMG you're right, what am i thinking, damn, i guess i shoulda done some research..... poor me... making 370 ft lbs of torque at 3500 rpm at 11 lbs of boost.... man, where did i go wrong...

also, the final compression was not reached by the ehadgasket alone, if you re-read, we removed the quench-zone and bored it to lower it as well

1) Stock KA - T3/T4 57-trim, Revhard manifold, JWT cams, GReddy VSPL intercooler....controlled by JWT ECU with Cobra MAF and 50lb topfeed injectors.

2) +3years at 12psi, over 20,000 miles so far...75% of those miles on the track, the other 25% on the drive(s) to the track.

3) 310rwhp at 12psi

4) Started with a non-intercooled setup at ~6psi, and I was using a JWT N/A tuned ECU with WAY too much timing advance built in...lasted 2 weeks.

5) Do it right the first time...and T25's don't belong on a KA. T3 or larger, please.

6) See website (sig) for pics and dyno charts, etc...

I am thinking of going KA T and I just put a re-conditioned motor a 1000 mimles ago so its like rebuilt. What do you think about running 6 psi intercooled? whats the longevity on that you think roughly?

~1000 miles so far. been to the drag strip: Ran 13.8 on 1/4 mile. went to an autoX event and it held up ok as well. Track time coming up Feb24/25. We'll see how it holds up.

3. numbers you've made on the dyno

4. what and why it blew up (if applicable)
hasn't blown up yet.

5. experiences, thoughts (pros, cons)
My only complaint is coming from NA KA, I've noticed it is harder to feather the throttle when coming around the corners. I was told to recirc the BOV and it should be much better.

wow, do some more research.

...sounds like he did but you need to do yours.

there was a guy back in 2004 on honda-tech with a 11.5:1 with a gt2871r running like 18lbs with ITB's on it. There is nothing wrong with a lil compression on a boost motor, its when you put slack in the tuning you get problems. Lower compression just gives you more buffer room for error in your tuning. I see lots of built KA-t's with lil to no tuning and they wonder why they had problems...
