My 7th Z build...

Just picked up my 7th 240Z project. This was picked up by my late friend in Lancaster over 10 years ago. I will be finishing it on his behalf. Hopefully it will not take as long as my last Z project that took me 6 years to build.

Its a 73 with absolutely no rust. I will be putting in my old set up just to get it running. See below specs:

N42 block, E31 head (ported/polished, N47 valves, Pontiac V8 double valve springs, 512 cams), Nismo header, R200 rear end, 5 speed, and stock SU's. I might search for triple Mikuni 44's if money permits it.

Not sure yet what engine I will putting in yet but I'm leaning over towards a 3.1 liter turbo. I've always wanted to build one and I know my friend wanted to have one in it also.

I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

Looks like a nice solid car to start with. Thats awesome to be able to finish it in a situation like that, I'm sure your friend would appreciate it.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope that he would appreciate it. I sold my running S14 with suspension to get this from his wife.

Absolutely no rust. I helped him buy this and trailer back to his house. We redid the whole under chassis (grinded to bare metal and resprayed). It will be somewhat a slow build this month since it's Xmas and trying to get my RB powered S14 running. Trying to get that out of the garage and get this thing in the garage.

So I'm confused....

...it has an engine in it but you're gonna go 3.1 liter turbo instead?

Let me know if you want to get rid of the current setup. I'm in the 818 area and looking for a running setup for my Z.

Super clean base to start with though. How did you guys manage to do the undercarriage? Was it on a rotisserie?

Nope. It's got an N42 block that was running prior to taking off the head as my friend was about to put on my old ported E31 in it. He never finished it but I will put it all back on just to make it running though. I will eventually get the 3.1 liter turbo instead in it later but I've got to finish my RB S14 first. Let me know if you do need any mechanical parts as I have a lots of extra.

As for the under carriage, no rotisserie, just good old elbow grease from underneath.

Damn thats dedication. I thought about doing it from underneath on my Z but I figured it would be a bitch.

Seems like you have some experience with Z's, have you ever daily driven one?.... just curious. I want to daily my Z but I'm a little hesitant to trust a carburated system for long distance or in-traffic driving.

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to watching your build.

Don't get me wrong. It was a bitch doing it hehehe.

I have experience with Z's but I would not consider myself an expert lol. I have daily driven one of my Z's previously. As long as you keep it stock you won't have any issues. This is from experience. I'll give you this advise. As long as the maintenance is done, I believe a stock Z would last forever. Mine has never let me down until I started modifying it to make it faster. It didn't matter which Z it was hehe.

Still trying to finish my S14, plus it's X-mas, and plus it's been raining so no work on it til it stops. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks. It will be slow build I think since I wanna do it right the first time. I have most of the parts already. I just need time which I currently don't have lol.

Unless you saw this in my buddy's garage, it's been out of commission for the last 10 years. When he got this about 12 years ago, he drove it for awhile but with the stock kidney bean wheels. Already had the Euro tail lights though, primered gray, and a full set of Autometer Sport Comps.

body looks pretty solid. Good candidate for a project. I've built a few Z's in the past. These cars are so easy to build and fun. Have you thought of going with the L28ET swap? Good luck and keep us posted with the procress.

Thanks. When I started with S30's back in the 90's, it was a lot easier to find parts and parts cars in the junkyards. Now it's like looking a needle in a haystack lol. Good luck with your find.

Thanks and yes, they are easy to build. I just hate it every time it breaks down lol. I've done 2 L28ET swaps on my previous Z's but have never done a 3.1 stroker so I'm kinda aiming towards that right now. Gotta finish my other project though before I can start with this one. Promised myself to only work on 1 project at a time hehe
