Correct tire size for 17x9 and 17x8

I just got a set of 17" LM-GT2's and Im looking for tires.

Rim specs are
F: 17" x 8"+35
R: 17" x 9"+38

Im throwing these on an S14 for mostly daily use but occasional drift, autocross and roadcourse days. Id like to have the OEM spec tire on these rims. I am not looking for stretch, flush or any of that ...stuff.... I run Ohlins 32 way adj struts and eibach sportline springs with 1.7" drop in the front and a 1.4" drop in the rear. I am mostly concerned with clearence issues.

I was thinking of the following sizes as a safe estimate
F:235/40/17
R:255/40/17

For a littel more tire if it would fit on the rim and in the fenders I was thinking.
F: 245/40/17
R:265/40/17

What do you guys think? Can I fit the larger size or maybe even a bit more?

Right now the car is KA powered N/A with all of 125 realy angry squirels under the hood but Im finishing up the brakes, body, suspension and interior within the next few months and Ill be going to an RB25 after that. Starting with a stock RB25 but I have a 400-500HP goal so the extra tire width will be very helpful at that point.

Thanks in advance,

235/40/17 all round will be good. Staggered is just for looks and makes the car understeer. Good tyres beat large tyres by a mile.

Thanks for that info livelyZ, that looks very useful

OP another thing you could use is Rimtuck.com to see actual fitment pictures on the cars

Aside from the threads we have on this forum which is the Max rubber thread and the wheel fitment whore thread
