I was randomly looking into a huge motorsport festival in the UAE the other day and they have a "freestyle drifting" competition and it made me think, that's pretty much what a sideshow is. Same with those Austrailian burnout contests and middle eastern high-speed camry drifting. Lump it all together and I think freestyle drifting is a rational name. No real technique, skill, or goal other than making smoke and noise, abusing the shit out of the car, being obnoxious, and killing tires (and maybe bystanders). So, no, I don't think it'll become the new drifting. It's like scooter kids at a skatepark - sure, they're doing tricks, but everyone knows they're a joke compared to skateboard/bmxers (time attack/drifters).

Do they set fire to cars, shoot people, or drag people out of their cars and beat the shit out of them in the UAE or Australia?

Come on, man... you're from NorCal, you should know better. This shit is straight up hood

My point is that it's all goofy, not that they have the same culture.
